You're allowed to believe anything you want; why can't you simply believe in God and do whatever you want, without having to be tied down to a religion? It sounds to me that you're looking for the anti-religion. Religions, churches; they're all about control and a select few members of a clergy telling their parishioners how to dress, act, eat, talk, everything, based on either their ambiguous interpretation of the Bible, or simply things that they think people should do because they say so.
Go your own way, you don't need religion... it sounds like you need (or want/have) spirituality. Do what you want; that doesn't mean you can't believe in God.

That was the issue which was brought up in the garden of Eden. Satan was tempting to deceive Eve by telling her that she didn't need God, her Creator to guide her, she could make her own decisions independent of God. She could be like God and go about her merry way doing just as she pleased...she would know what would benefit her better than her Creator would. Well, Eve was completely deceived and made the worst human decision ever made and then Adam made the second worse human decision and chose to follow Eve on the path to sin and death. My religion doesn't tell me what I have to do. We all make a conscious decision to allow the Bible to be our guide because that is why God gave it to us. He didn't create us and then let us go off and not have a clue as to what we really need. We trust that what he teaches us is the most beneficial way to lead to our permanent happiness.

Honestly...I'd have to say it's Christianity. It's gotten a bad rep as totally interfering with people's lives but if you really studied it and read the Bible, I believe you'd see that God leaves the everyday living up to us. He wants us to CHOOSE to be under His lordship. He doesn't force anyone. Now that being said, human's have come in under the banner of religion and sometimes forces their rules on the followers. I really think that true Christanity holds to the freedom of choice by the believer to live in a right relationship with Christ or not..on a day by day basis.

Pray tell, if such a religion as you are looking for exists, what is its purpose? And where on earth would you get behavioral standards, convictions, and direction in life? From the New York Times?

what do you mean by Freedom? If you mean free to do anything you want without any consequenses. That would mean you really want a religion that will not hold you responsible for anything. I think we forget that we freedom comes responsibity. We have to willing to accept the consequences of our desicions. Most religions allow you to be free to make your own choices, they just warn you that there are consequences.

I like the way Silvia Brown believes. She says that we chart our own paths in life and the reason why is because their is nothing bad that happens in heaven and that we want to experience certain things. I don't even come close to properly representing her , but if this interest you try reading one of her books. I think it helps to put things into perspective and this is coming from a person who was brought up very catholic! Just a thought.

i believe in the sayings of Karl Marx and m.n.roy. Marx said religion is opium. m.n.roy said man is the maker of his own world. most of the major religions like Hinduism, Islam and Christianity don't give freedom to its followers. they interfere in their day to day affairs . you have to blindly believe in the preachings of that religion other wise you would be annihilated or you won't get salvation.

No. Religion was invented as a control mechanism to create order to an unruly population.
