I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and have been dilated at 1.5-2 cm and 70% effaced for a month now. So if you are like me, then you should be fine. I have also been having contractions for about a month, but no labor. Now I am at the point where I just want to go into labor and now it isn't happening! I hope your baby holds on and good luck :)

I'm not sure about the 34 weeks thing, but I would say to be on bed rest as long a possible to make sure that your baby doesn't come out before its ready to. the doctors can't stop it if your too dilated so if you start having contractions again or have any other weird pain then i suggest that you go to the hospital as soon as u can. Good luck!

you can stay dilated for weeks, and if the baby is born it will just as healthy, they don't stop it because 34 weeks is basically full term. Maybe just a little smaller. If you had your baby at 34 weeks it would be fine. I was dilated and effaced for a few weeks with my son.

You could be there for an hour, maybe 2 days, it all depends on you and the baby. My advice is to breath through the contractions and don't scream, when it wants to be born let it, you'll be relieved once it is out.
I always go really fast after 5 cm dialation, just don't scream or get an epidural if you need it. I surely never used them because I don't want any needles in my spine, i just went all natural.
Good Luck!

The speed of dilation will vary siginificantly women to women. If you are 32w, and dilated, you are officially classified as having pre-term labor. You should be bedrested. And they should give you oral meds to take at home as well. It is after 36 weeks that they don't do anything to stop your contractions anymore, not 34 weeks.
If your doc hasn't give you meds or put on bedrest, call him back. That was irresponsible.

Well carrying a singleton you normally dont have as much risk of pre-term labor but, it is always is possible. In your case your are a high candidate. It is possible your baby could come anytime. I would suggest reading up on Pre-term labor. I know it is a scary factor but, if your baby was born now there is a good chance it would end up in the NICU for weeks. Please check into it and good luck!

I know the thought of delivering early is scary, but you may have to nd your baby should be just fine as long as you have been healthy throughout your pregnacy my sister delivered at 30 weeks and 3 days and her son is fine he didnt even have to stay in the hospital. So have faith and be prepared.

Everyone is different. Some go right away. Others linger. Just keep your doctor abreast of your progress and hold on. It's going to be a bumpy ride.
