I think the key word in your question is religion. There is a lot of difference between a loving relationship with Jesus and God and religion. Religion binds and destroys people. A relationship nurtures.
So in answer to your question--turning you back on religion will not send you to hell. Turning your back on a relationship with Jesus and God will send you to hell.

You'll never know because according to Christian belief God is the only one who will judge so guessing down here is first of all useless (since you have no say in it anyway) and second of all presumptuous because you think you can judge which only God can do.
And from my atheist point of view, I don't think there's a heaven or hell, nothing to be saved from (metaphysically speaking) and religion is just an idea anyway.

I think it is pretty dangerous to go around assuming that you are saved. If you were truly saved, you wouldn't turn your back on your religion. Being saved isn't a one time thing; it's an ongoing conversion, from following the world to following God.

The concept of being saved is reserved as the dogma of a particular religion or group of religions. If you do not believe in the concept, what is the point of worrying about it...you are not in the community of the groups that does believe.

Dear mom2braydon,
Turning from your religion does not send you to hell. Not having a Savior (Jesus Christ) places a person under the wrath of God (damnation). You see, we are all sinners--we have rebelled against God (Jesus Christ) by NOT keeping His commandments. So, in reality all of humanity should go to hell which, of course, is eternal. "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. The soul that sinneth, it shall die." So how can this huge sin debt be paid without spending eternity in hell? The Lord Jesus is the only One that could make this payment. And you see God cannot just simply let everybody go free because He is perfectly just--sin must be paid for and the law must be upheld. So the Lord in His great mercy determined to save some of these rebels by enduring their punishment for them! From the Garden of Gethsemanae to the point where Jesus said, "It is finished" was the period where He paid for the sins of those whom He planned to save. The eternal punishment was condensed into the hours from Gethsemanae thru the cross!! And what Jesus suffered in that time is incomprehensible by man!
Religion does not save--only Christ can save! And He has chosen those whom He has determined to save before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:3-5). You could be one of those "elect." The Bible tells us, "So then, faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." Faith is a synonym for the Lord Jesus. So then, Christ cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. If God has determined to save you, it will happen under the hearing of God's word--the Bible. As you read, pray to God for mercy and obedience to that which you read. Remember, it is in God's hands. See the website I list below.

According to the bible, once you are saved, you are always saved, even if you fall into sin. However, the bible also says that those who habitually repeat their sins are not truly saved to begin with. Personally, I like the early christian branch that believed the more you sinned, the more god had to forgive you, the better off you were. Sounds like my kind of people.

Well the reason you are saved is cos you believe and you've made a commitment to serve your course...which in turn is your meal ticket to enter into heaven...right?... so if you up and turn your back on where your getting your meal ticket from...you'll go the opposite way...which my friend i believe is hell.

i don't think that they will necessarily go to hell. they god allows u turns. i know that he will punish you. i'm a living testiment to that. i also think that some people don't know exactly what it is to be saved. but you can only make the same mistake but so many times.

yes. you may be a born again saved Christian .. but if you don't "walk the walk" you will not be taken at the rapture when Christ returns to gather His people.
Matthew 7
21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
what this is saying is just because you are a born again saved believer in Christ, if you do not walk the walk ... and do the will of Christ, then you will not be saved.

yes. if a person gets saved, then kills another person, and never repents for it, i think that definitely qualifies as hell-worthy. what's the point in getting saved if you're just going to turn your back on God? He's not gonna turn his back on you...
