Decoding 'The Da Vinci Code'
The Da Vinci Code challenges Jesus' identity and deeds, the content of the Bible, the origin of the church, the motives of early Christian leaders and the relevance of the church today — but it does so without any historical, logical or theological credibility.
Therefore, Focus on the Family created this Web site to equip you to know the truth and share it with others. While The Da Vinci Code is a seductive fiction being presented as fact, it's also opening a door of opportunity. As Dr. Erwin Lutzer, the author of The Da Vinci Deception, says:
The movie will confuse lots of people, but Jesus will become the centerpiece of many conversations. For those who are prepared to explain that Christianity rests on solid foundations, the opportunity will be tremendous.
Here, you'll find a wide variety of factual articles addressing the claims of The Da Vinci Code, plus Web ads for linking to this site, and resources for use with individuals (from teen to adult) and small groups. You'll learn the truth from the insights of such recognized Christian thinkers as Dr. Erwin Lutzer, Lee Strobel, Dr. Norman Geisler and Alex McFarland. We'll take you to Focus on the Family's recent "Dare 2 Dig Deeper" conference, where apologetics expert Gary Habermas, Ph.D., explained the significance of Jesus' resurrection (watch the Windows Media video here). We've also included a discussion guide for parents (PDF) and a list of additional articles and resources from other Focus Web sites.
To coincide with the film's release, Campus Crusade for Christ has created The Da Vinci Code: Know the Truth, Share the Truth. An ideal resource to share with seekers and skeptics, this 20-page mini-magazine examines the issues raised by The Da Vinci Code book and movie in an engaging way that points people to the truth. We're making the booklet available as PDF downloads in both English and Spanish versions. To answer the five most important questions about The Da Vinci Code in a more concise format, we've created a brief, two-sided pamphlet called Decoding Da Vinci.
The Word of God warns us of false teachers who "secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them" (2 Peter 2:21, NIV) — and stresses the importance of "speaking the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15). Therefore, educate yourself and your family so you're standing on a firm foundation of truth and can introduce others to the real Jesus Christ.

A) Leonardo da Vinci was a real person.
B) The Knights Templar was a real organization.
C) The cup whose contents Jesus blessed and passed around to His disciples is the "Holy Grail", wherever it is.
D) The Keystone is another name for Solomon's Key, a bit of Kabbalistic arcana.
E) A clerk in the records office in Paris, bored with his job and dreaming of greater things, made up the "Priory of Sion". It never existed.
F) The book is an amalgam of several medieval legends first promulgated after the Capets took the throne of France. It was a desparate attempt to bring back the Merovingian dynasty. Didn't work then, won't work now.
G) You can find a much more interesting read by getting "Holy Blood, Holy Grail". At least the authors of THAT fairy tale took the trouble to do some research and if they'd been a bit less gullible and a bit more cynical, they could have cleared up the "mystery" for good and all.

The Knights Templars did exist and accumilate/guard holy Christian relics. During the 4th Crusade the Shroud of Turin was rescued from the captured city of Canstanople. Being considered by many to be the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ. It is also considered to be the image that miraculously cured King Abgar when an apostle (St. Jude) revealed the holy face of our Lord.(History of the Church, Eucibious) It is believed the Shroud of Turin was disguised as the Mandylion (a holy relic that disapeared about the same time the shroud appeared.
The so called holy grail, the actual cup Jesus used at the Last Supper, is believed to be the cup of Valenzia in Spain. It's history goes all the way back to Christ's era and St. Lawrence was martyred believing it was the cup. The first 3 centuries of popes also used it. (St. Lawrence and the Holy Grail)
The huge disappointment about the Da Vinci Code is all of the fiction in it. The most damgaging things anyone can do is what Brown did: mix fiction with facts. Like in a court of law, the judge determines which evidence is relevant and admissible and what isn't. For instance, Brown's assertion that Da Vinci actually painted the person next to Jesus as Mary Magdalene and the missing cup inferring that Mary was the actual holy grail is crazy. First of all, Da Vinci was not a witness to the Last Supper. He is an artist with interpretation. Then, Brown interprets Da Vinci's painting of the Last Supper without any testimony from the painter. This automatically makes any evidence from Da Vinci and Brown invalid and inadmissable as reasonable evidence. Yet, Brown uses it as valid evidence. Secondly, a resonable person would have to ask, "What happened to the disciple John in the painting? Thirdly, it is a scriptural (Gospel) fact that there was a cup used in the Last Supper of the ritualistic Passover.
So, I personally can not stand what Brown has done by deceiving and misleading people away from the truth. Many people are so gullible they believe in the Da Vinci Code. There are thousands of other nonsensicle information in his account which he has made millions off of.

The Priory of Scion, then Knights Templar and the Holy Grail were all real places, organizations things, etc.
BUT, the actual plot and theme behind the DaVinci Code are fiction. Dan Brown has said himself that the book is not historically correct. It's more of a "what if"? book.

Priory of scion, Knights of Templar, Holy Grail, The Keystone are all true to an extent. I don't think they are connected to each other as close as the book. The book is fiction.

There is a holy grail, buildings can have keystones, there was a group called the Knights of Templar (even after they were declared illegal... the king and pope who declared them illegal and criminal died one year later... but I digress), there is a lot of controversial over the life several folks, the locations are real, the theories are real (although they are not accurate), there was a vote but long before that Jesus was declared son of god, the vote did not do that... Jesus was a Jew, there was a Mary M, the Free Masons exist (and you can join if you want), there is an Opus Dei (and they have been accused of being a cult and brainwashing)... you can do a lot of research on line and the history channel ran a bunch on this too. Peace.

There actually is a priory of scion, and it still exists. The knights of templar existed as well, not sure if it still does...the holy grail and the keystone is all speculation and it depends on who you talk to whether or not they believe it exists. much like religion itself. you can research these things in books and online.

The Knights Templar.
But the holy grail is really a carpenters cup. Look at the painting and notice that there are 13 cups, and 12 apostles + Jesus Christ.
