my boyfriend thinks it started from people having anal sex, from blood mixing. i think it started from promiscuity in general. what do you think?

It probably originated from animals, most likely a mutated money virus.
But regarding the second part of your question, The most efficient way to spread it is (receptive) anal sex, needle sharing is the next most efficient way to spread it, they are not the cause. General promiscuity is a contributing factor. Here's why, anal sex, needle sharing (blood mixing), random hook-ups, unprotected sex, etc are symptoms of general promiscuity, so you are both correct.
Doubtful that it is a man-made disease. We don't have the technology yet, but when we do, it will be very profitable since we will be able to use it to cure diseases. So when we are able to engineer viruses, we will use them to deliver treatments and make a profit.

They actually think that it was from a monkey in Africa. They think that a guy either ate or shot a monkey and got the blood of it in him. I read an article that said the monkeys in Africa had a form of AIDS but it wasn't anything that was dangerous to them. They said it must have mutated when it hit the mans blood. That is where a lot of people said it got started.
I have also heard that it was a man made disease. Someone on here who was asked a question once said they read an article about it. They said that someone heard scientists talking about a virus that was going to help a certain disease. It is believed that the study went very wrong and someone got infected with this virus and it turned into HIV and that is where it began.
I'm not sure what to believe. The thing in Africa sounds like it could be believable but I wouldn't put it past the government to hide something like this from the world because they do it all the time. It is also said that they have a cure for this and Magic Johnson took it and he is fine. I'm not sure what to believe. Those are the only two explanations that I would believe if I were you. It didn't originate from promiscuity. It got spread because of promiscuity but it didn't originate because of that. It also got spread because of bad blood transfusions and drug use. There is no one reason it was spread. I hope this helps.

HIV originated in primates as far as is known. Possible ways for this virus to have originally infected humans include the hunting and eating of the original primate species; a bite would be another possible route. From this point, the virus ultimately spread to the rest of the world.

They traced it back to gay men in africa. Straight up I think it is a judgment and punishment from God.
