You can learn to become a groomer by attending a licensed grooming school or by requesting to be an apprentice working under the supervision of an experienced dog groomer/shop owner for a 6 month period and then if your skills are good enough, you can start to work as a professional experienced dog groomer.
How much a dog groomer makes really depends on where you are employed and the services that are provided. Visit a local grooming shop and check out the prices - a groomer working in a shop usually gets to take hom 40 to 50 per cent of the total fee charged to the customer. The split is usually 50 - 50 since the shop and all tools belong to the shop owner and you provide all the labor hence a nice split of work, responsibilities and earnings.
Most grooming shops do not offer medical benefits and if your desire is to open your own grooming shop, you will again have to provide your own medical/dental insurance and no private policy can come close to the coverage that a large company can perform.
you will not get rich working as a groomer and the work is very physical.
Best of Luck to you

1. Check out the market in your area by calling some groomers for prices.
2. Get trained.
3. Try to get hooked up with a vet, store or shelter as a way of getting business.

Grooming costs vary. My friends, yes the ever notorious basset hound owners, that I am training (the dog and the friends, LOL) let their basset hound get loaded with so many fleas and soars that it cost them $160.00 to get him groomed, treated for itching and of course, the Front Line treatment. It made me sick to see this poor dog that way. Thank goodness he is much better now. There is good money in dog grooming, ecspecially if she specializes in grooming show dogs! She should go to different websites for different breeds and read about the grooming standards for each dog at show. Also, she can talk to local breeders/show dog owners.
Anyway...Good Luck

the best way to learn is to work for a groomer that needs an assistant..You will see ads for dog bathers..But most of the time, they won't run ads, but rely on word of mouth..so it would be wise to just visit the salons in your area, and ask of they need an assistant..This will work into an apprenticeship...
