Well, the previous answers are correct in that the closest airport to South Padre Island is in Brownsville, but, unless you are flying in on a private plane, more than likely you will want to fly into McAllen Texas which is the major regional commercial airline hub for the South Padre Island area. Don't remember exactly off the top of my head but I believe it is about 15 miles from the McAllen airport (Southwest airlines is the major carrier flying into McAllen) to South Padre. The airline code for McAllen is MFE if you are trying to plan an itinerary on the www.
