In William Gibson's "Neuromancer", the character Molly Millions stated that she'd had the surgeon who'd implanted the chromed eyeshields over her eyes had rerouted her tear ducts' output to her salivary glands (as she no longer needed to secrete tears to keep her eyes moist).
So instead of weeping tears, Molly Millions was conditioned to spit.
I always liked that idea.

First tears have saline in them which is not good for your plants. As for wasting them tears are never a waste because they help cleanse your inner self and wash away sadness. Tears are very useful. I have found that a good cry will lift my spirits profoundly. I raised 19 children and encouraged them to cry whenever they felt like it. All of my children had lifted emotional well being after a good cry. Try crying without thought of the tears being wasted and test my theory.

My tears are in a huge pool up in heaven with an angel watching over the pool, whenever I cry the pool empties a little, when there is no more tears in the pool, then I cry crocodile tears and the angel is very sad.

No tear is ever wasted. When we do cry, it's normally because we feel sorry for ourselves and nobody else. For every drop that falls, nature awaits.

Lonesome tears
I can't cry them anymore
I can't think of what they're for
Oh they ruin me every time
But I'll try
To leave behind some days
These tears just can't erase
I don’t need them anymore
