We should use profiling, racial or otherwise, to deal with potential threats. I remember when I was stopped at LAX on my way back from London pre-9/11. Even though I was a bit annoyed as they went through my things and asked me questions, I realized that they are doing their job, and I had nothing to hide. A few minutes later (with gift wrapping opened), I was on my way. C'est la vie!

It is essential to use every tool at our capacity in order to avoid problems.

FYI everyone that comes through a checkpoint is profiled as a threat until we clear you. As far as what individuals do, that's their own up bringing, and for anyone's info, terrorists are NOT just middle eastern as everyone thinks, I've seen photos of White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern, and many other nationalities that were terrorists, so if you go through a checkpoint and get chosen every time, take a look at what kind of clothing your wearing, or maybe we're just doing our job of random screening, we pick who ever, or say every third, fourth or fifth female, or male, hate to say it you can't play the race game when it comes to security, you have no proof.

I am a ticket reader and the company I work for just got sued because a palestinian (spelling) woman showed her passport and the ticket reader then asked for a green card (the passport was enough to get her through security) The woman felt profiled and complained to the airline and the ticket reader, because the woman was made a selectee (additional security screening) The woman was the airlines, lets say most VIP passenger...big nono.
Getting sued for over 4 million dollars!

I think it is reasonable to spend a little extra time questioning or searching bags of people from terrorist nations. USA is too politically correct - I see them searching old ladies, pretty women, and high school students on a school trip. I think it is more likely a terrorist is a middle-eastern guy (so far 100% of terrorists fit this category - right??). It makes it more efficient for everyone else at airports but unfortuanately targets everyone from middle-east - this is the price that is paid for safety. If they get with this treatment - they should tell their country-mates to stop blowing up our planes and we will gladly stop these types of profiling!

Golly! they've been doing that for ages, hon! I'm a SE asian babe, but because of my name, I got searched and my bags got turned inside out every time at the airport, while my very white husband got waved through all the time. But, whatever. I've got nothing to hide..they can have my lipstick or my compact powder if they want.
