The calories required to heat the ice cream up are, sadly, minute in comparison with the calories consumed.
Nice try.

Sorry, but there's no truth to that. You burn calories digesting anything you eat, but it's a simple math game -- if you take in more calories than your body needs at that time, your body stores the additional calories as fat. And no, it doesn't take extra energy to warm ice cream up to room temperature. Now, ice cream isn't all bad, but it has a lot of refined sugar and saturated fat, and those are two things that will add the pounds to anyone who eats a lot of them.

Your body does have to warm it up, but your body is really good at doing that espeically from the inside. Your cells create heat but just doing their normal jobs so the extra heat to warm up ice cream in your mouth and stomache is very minimal. So yes you will burn a few calories warming your food up but the sugar and fats in the ice cream will negate that. That is why if you like this idea of a diet you should stick with natural frozen fruit sorbets, they can still have a lot of sugar but they don't have all the fats like ice cream and your body still has to warm it up.

On one level, your friend might be correct. It takes energy to consume food that is colder than your body temp. He's wrong, however, in assuming that ice cream is healthy. Look at the fat grams! Look at the total carbs! You definitely take in more calories than you burn by eating it. The trick is to have just a spoonful, then take a walk for about 20 minutes to burn off what you just ate.

Well, he is partly right. It does take your body more energy to heat up something cold that you consume, but ice cream isn't what you should eat. The amount of calories, sugar, fat and carbs that you are putting into your body is far more than your body will burn. If you want to burn more calories drink ice water. Zero calories, fat, sugar, carbs and it will fill you up.

This is flawed logic.
Ice cream is full of fat and high in calories. And no, the thermal process of "heating up" the ice cream in your body does NOT negate the caloric or fat intake.
