If I'm suddenly awakened (by a noise or anything, I guess) I see large black spiderwebs in front of my face. Like in the middle of the room or in the corners of the ceiling. They seem real because I'm actually awake. The first time it happened I was so scared and confused. But now if I see one I tell my self, "I need to wake up so it will go away." Even though I know they're not real, I wonder what the heck causes this. Hallucinations are common when people are in between sleep and alert states but why spiderwebs...everytime? Does this ever happen to you or someone you know? Do you know what this means? Have you ever seen anything strange under similar circumstances?

I know what you are talking about. I does sound a little coo coo but I do have those hallucinations right when I wake up and have wondered where they come from too. I just want to say, I am very mentally sane, and never see these spider webs outside of my half asleep phase. Why spider webs? Weird. It usually occurs to me when I am heavily under stress and can not get enough sleep. I will open my eyes while I am still half asleep and see a big spider on a spider web coming closer to my head as if he is crawling from the ceiling. It is so real to me, that I jump up and immediately turn on the lights and start to look for spiders in my bed. After a couple of times that this has happened to me, I just tell myself that I am still dreaming and try to go back to sleep.

Even though your awake your brain is still half in dreamland. Often on programs about the paranormal skeptics will talk about people seeing or hearing ghost after they just woke up. Especially if they have heard stories about a haunting, their mind kind of messes with them. For instance when I was younger I was reading a book about spiders and that night I woke up and thought something was crawling on me and I jumped out of bed.

Hypnagogic sensations are vivid dream-like experiences that occur as one is falling asleep or waking up. Accompanying sleep paralysis can cause the sensations to be more frightening. The features of these sensations generally vary by individual, but some are more common to the experience than others:

This is also something that I experience. I also sometimes "see" strangers walking into my room. I have actually bruised my husband trying to wake him up by pinching him and not alerting "the stranger." The funny thing is that I also tell myself that it isn't real, but it's hard to not believe what your eyes see. I am actually considering going to a doctor or a sleep specialist because it is affecting my sleep and my ability to get to sleep. Let me know if you find a solution or way to stop it!
