There is no "best type". That's gonna depend on your personal preference, what breed would work best with your lifestyle...etc...If you are looking to get a dog, please research the kind you are interested in before you make any decisions..too many excellent dogs end up in the shelter because of the lack of research done before getting a dog-just a friendly tip!

LABS LABS LABS. I have two, and would have more if I had the room. All they can do is love, lick and love some more. They are great to work out with - run in the morning and night, swim with you out to the middle of the lake and back. Not to mention the money you can save in the winter when they snuggle up to you in bed and keep you warm when it is 20 below. If you are interested - save some FUR BABIES, and go to www.midwestlabrescue.org, just to see. You cant help but fall in love with labs.

It depends on what you consider best quality: shedding, slobber, barking, protection, companionship, compatibility with children, good for travel, a rescue pet, all things to consider, and so on.
For me, a non-shedding, thoroughbred dog is best. I have Maltese, they are small, excellent companions, intelligent and don't bark too loud. The downside, they require a lot of grooming or look nappy easily.

I'm partial to my Bouvier De Flanders, I can only speak of him, he is a large, gentle, friendly, submissive easy to train sweetheart.
I also think in general Labs and Golden Retrievers are best people dogs.
