He does not try to dig out of the fence, just large holes all over the yard. There are also 2 other boxers who are older in the same fence, who do not dig at all. The other 2 boxers are older than him.

They dig becasue they are bored.
If he has toys and friends to play with and is getting enought exercise it should not be a problem. Boxers are very active and need to run and play alot. Maybe he needs more outside activites.
Other than that fill the hole with poop and he will not dig in it again. As least most dogs won't. Some outgrow the digging things as they get a little older. 1 year is young and I am sure he is just full of energy and mischief.

That's a hard one. Other toys and rawhides is a good idea, but sometimes it works and sometimes they get bored with as well. Is your dog digging in the same area? Put chicken wire or some sort of steel screen (make sure the holes are not too small) over the favored location; cover the screen with dirt, and wait. Your dogs will try to dig as before, but the wire covering will stop them from getting too far, and the dogs will be deterred because the wire hurts their paws. Before long, they will give up and stop digging holes, then you’ve solved your problem!

Sit outside with him with the other dogs out of sight, preferably in the house, getting your dogs attention is imperative. Have a squirting water bottle at your side. When your pup goes to dig, squirt him with the bottle in an area that gets a reaction, in the forehead or side works for most pups. After a few attempts to dig holes and getting squirted he will stop but it may take a few hours on your part. No body said training an animal would be easy! Good luck.

Boxers love to dig! I have always given my Boxers an 'approved' place to dig - a sandbox or a pile of mulch. I tell them 'Dig, dig, dig!' Then (after a few minutes) tell them 'Enough!' & praise how good they were - Boxers thrive on that more than most other breeds. You get them to understand you can tell them when they can & can't dig, and they get to release that urge. Since yours is deaf, you may have to work out sign language. Like show him the spot, act like you are digging, then (after a few minutes) tap his shoulder & shake your head no, then pet & hug him, letting him know he's done well & done enough. When he goes to the wrong spots, take him to the right spot. They are smart & learn quickly, with lots of praise. And working out a system where you substitute a toy (good) for a shoe (bad) or an approved -vs- unapproved spot for an activity is something that works very well with this sensitive but hard-headed breed. Good luck!

Having worked with abused and abandoned animals who are in foster care, I would recommend using a water gun to reinforce behavior. Every time he digs, shoot him in the face. There is also a calming spray you can get from places like Dr. Foster Smith online or Petco - that helps the pet relax under stressful situations. He could be digging for other reasons - acting out because of another reason.

I also have 2 dogs, one of which is also deaf. You can try using certain hand motions when he does something unacceptable. You can also wave your hands around and pretend to yell at him. My dogs respond to that quite well. Even though I'm really not making any noise, they realize I'm not happy with them. To get him to stop digging, I'd recommend putting some cyan pepper around the holes he dug. A little of that on his nose won't be pleasant, and he'll be less likely to keep digging there. He may actually stop completely. It worked with my dogs.

Take her out 2 - 3 times a day for a run and wear her out. She is bored (even though you rotate her toys). She has a lot of energy and no way to use it. She needs a lot of exercise. I know one guy in our neighborhood that takes his high energy dog out 4 times a day for a run. When she is tired she may not dig as much or stop all together.

He has to be taught. I have a deaf pitbull and I have taught him commands in sign language. People may laugh but it does work. And lots of toys and bones. Since he is deaf, when you see him digging stop him and give him a toy or a bone. It will take awhile for him to get it but he will. Be patient and you will learn to communicate with him.

I have a friend who has a deaf dog , the only thing he will respond to is a very loud handclap or gunshot , try a loud clap to get his attention. Or you can spray him with water if you catch him in the act .

Some dogs dig...if you are trying to get his attention in mid dig, use the water hose....
