It's work related but not mandatory and I have had a cold so my tastes will be off anyways. My boss will be there and one of the new guys is a brown noser who I think wants my job.

Just wanted to let you know this is a professional wine tasting, lots of spitting and perhaps a glass at the end. No getting drunk or tipsy.

I would go. You seem sure there is someone there after your job. Go and have a few sips, spit, and mingle. Its always good to go to the bosses function when you are invited. Though not mandatory, its good to follow protocol.

taste wine on your own time. it's so , you know, being in the show off biz, for so long helps me realize how ridiculous most of the things that go along with it really are. i made a lot of the benefits for giving to different projects that help others' lives., but the show of how much one possess over the other, kind of outings and invitations, i was known to flake out on. it embarrassed me.it made me personally, feel better inside than the elixer of wine. if the brown nosers attended functions that put their money toward giving for the sake of others to be able to live their dreams easier it would make them free of anything hanging over them, like the critisitim they've created with their comrads. please be big, don't hurt them with your tougne but tell them of your idealism and start helping others. if you guys have to make it a wine testing contest, like you really know what the @#*! you're doing, than do it already but give the revenues to a selected group you all agree upon and make it an ongoing mandatory progect. keep your head up but try to humble yourself with that nose...

It always about learning, whether it people, wine, confidence, or just seeing where the road takes you. Personally, any wine knowledge in a great conversation piece at any party. With or without your work collegues. Send them a quiz after the tasting to see how much notice they were taking during the presentations.

I'd go to protect my interests. I definitely would NOT get drunk. I'd pray that the brown noser would get drunk and make an *** of himself. Your cold should be better by then. Just sip slowly and you definitely do not have to finish all that is poured. Try to sit next to the person you dislike the least. ;-) Hope that helps!

Go.
1. Free Wine
2. Don't want the boss and new guy getting tipsy together without you. That will lead to them bonding, talking, etc. and the new guy may try to let him know why he should have your job! You gotta be there to stand your ground....if all else fails just get drunk. Don't say anything stupid to your boss though!

If it is not mandatory, and you really do not want to go then don't. But remember alot of times people act differently at work then they do out in the free world. So if you go you may end up realizing that these people are cool outside of work and find new friendships. But then again you may think dang they are butt heads. you never know.

If I were you I would just tough it out. If that guy wants your job you need to let them know that you are a team player and can do other things out of work. I had to go to a funeral once for a person that I didnt even know. I did not want to go just because that was very sad to see that, but I went to help my husband's career. Sometimes you have to do things that you dont want to, but hopefully in the end they will help you.

Take a flask with you and pour it in your glass to make them think you are drinking wine (probably has to match the color of wine.) You have to get tipsy with evryone!

Don't go if you really don't want to.

I would say go and get drunk. Being drunk makes people more tolerable. Then again, it being your boss you want to be careful. Don't need to get all trashed and telling people you don't like em and how the new guy needs to quit kissing ***.

I'd ditch it. Couple wines and you will likely say what is really on your mind and that wouldn't be good. You'd try to rub that brown spot off his nose.
