I bought a car from a californian dealer.My mistake,I gave him all
the money and trusted his promiss,to give me the title next day.
I showed up many times.Every time,the same ole story:my brother,my sister,my uncle got the title.Man~ana,man~ana,I
learned a new word in Spanish, that was another new experience.
One day,his place was vacant, his phonenumber out of order,
all the other cars removed, nobody knew, where he went.I got a
Californian temporary registration with lost/stolen title.I transferred
it to Arizona and it´s still sitting there. Now I want to get it registered
Anybody out there with any idea? There´s a reward in case of
success. The car is in the Phoenix area. Thanks a lot!!!

Heya Fritz,
If you have your purchase contract/bill of sale you will need to go to CA DMV and pay the fee for a re-issue of the title in your name. Take along a written statement about the dealer going out of business. You may need to get the statement noterized.I am not sure of the cost for that but it shouldnt be that much. Give your Pheonix address and they will mail the re-issued title to you. Then take the new CA title to AZ MVD. AZ will give you a title, in your name, the same day.

I did the same thing with a truck i picked up in South Dakota. I got a temporary 15 day registration to drive it to AZ, I submitted the bill of sale and waited a couple of weeks for the new title from SD to arrive in the mail. Took it to MVD in Tucson and was given an AZ title the same day.

You bought a car and didn't get the title? And now the fly-by-night dealer is gone? I'll bet dinner that you bought a stolen car.

You can try applying for an abandoned title. That will take several months. You probably won't be able to drive the car until that comes through. If it comes up stolen, it will be confiscated.

Hope you learned your lesson. No title = no money. EVER!

do you have any receipts for the money that you gave him? And d you have anything stating any agreements behind what you talked about? If you do then you can try and place a report with the better business bureau or the police department or see if you can find a place that does title investgations like the police department!

Apply for a lost title in your new state, your bill of sale will be good for this process unless you bought a stolen car, then you got problems buddy.
And don't tell me you didn't get a receipt for your money.
