It really sounds like he has something stuck in there, it may be so small you can't see it. I would recommend letting a vet check him out.

My dog just started doing the same thing. He had a jerky treat and 10 minutes later, he started smacking his mouth. He's been smacking his mouth non-stop since last night. I'm trying to book an appointment to have a vet take a look...while he has his teeth cleaned.

Their could be an infinite number of reasons for this. One could be something stuck, another is some type of oral issue. I have a Dal that someone has clipped his canine teeth. He smacks his mouth because his lips are now too big for his mouth.

By the way, she never said the dog smacked it's mouth with it's paw.

check the inside of his mouth, does he have anything in it that shouldn't be there? look for foreign objects but also look for growths. that's usually the reason, they can feel something in their mouth but can't get it out. true story, i worked at an animal clinic as a tech, i had a dog on the table for a dental cleaning and we removed a 4in piece of plastic from the roof of his mouth that was wedged in between his molars. we guessed it had been there for four years because it grew into the roof of his mouth. the owner said he smacked his mouth all the time.

if there's nothing in his mouth, you should consult a vet. just to be on the safe side. good luck!

If he is hitting his mouth with his paw, there could be something stuck in his mouth. My dog has done that. Check for him

is he a bulldog? i noticed bull dogs do it the most. most dogs pant to stay cool (their sweat glands are on their tongues) however with dogs with short and wider snouts they seem to have trouble keeping their mouth open to pant and end up smacking. hope that helped!

I don't know. But my dog sneezes a lot or he clears his passages. I have no idea. But it gets annoying.
