NEVER HAS THERE BEEN such an age of false teachers as this pitiful 20th century, so rich in material gadgets and so poor in mind and soul. Every conceivable opinion, even the most absurd, even those hitherto rejected by the universal consent of all civilized peoples—now has its platform and its own "teacher." A few of these teachers come with demonstration or promise of "spiritual power" and false miracles, as do some occultists and "charismatics;" but most of the contemporary teachers offer no more than a weak concoction of undigested ideas which they received "out of the air," is it were, or from some modern self-appointed "wise man" (or woman) who knows more than all the ancients merely by living in our "enlightened" modern times. As a result, philosophy has a thousand schools, and "Christianity" a thousand sects. Where is the truth to be found in all this, if indeed it is to be found at all in our most misguided times?

Have a peak at John 18:37.
Jesus claims his reason for coming to earth was to bear witness to the truth.
If he wasn't a liar, then the truth of things is to be found in his words.
Sadly, so many people, over so many centuries, have twisted and watered down his words.
He said this would happen.
Have a peak at Acts 20:29,30.
He also said there would be a worldwide work being done in our time.
Something positive, to do with God's kingdom.
Have a peak at Matthew 24:14.
Who is doing that work?
Maybe they know something.

***I was in a similar way as you, about 29 years ago – looking for truth – I knew I needed a standard for my actions, so I began to read the Bible. I was missing out on the most important thing – a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I trusted Him as Lord and Savior, and now the Bible makes sense, I am understanding it, and it shows me how He wants me to live. Now I can know the Truth, and can discern truth from error, through His Holy Spirit, who indwells me.
***If you have never done so, pray and ask Jesus to save you, and make you the type person He wants you to be – (that was the beginning of my Christian life).
***If you trust in Christ, ask God to lead you to a church where Christ is preached and honored, and where you can grow as a believer.
Check these verses:

"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:31-32

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, but through Me." John 14:6

Very poetically written! If your search is for truth amongst the myriad of religious sects, I refer you only to the scripture itself. It is the best teacher. If your search is for philosophy, there is much philosophy to be attained in the Scripture. If you choose to look beyond that as the baseline, I suppose you'll have to sort through many before settling on one and hope that it's true.

Do some research. Find out about other beliefs, see what you like and what you don't like. The truth is to found inside you. What is true to you, and what is false.

The marketplace of ideas has many booths dedicated to sellers of religion and philosophy, it's true. Is that really a bad thing, in itself? What is bad, in my opinion, is buying into an idea--any idea, religious or otherwise--without examining it carefully and honestly. Blind faith in anything is foolish.
