Well, I'm not an athiest, but my understanding of the supercollider project is that it seeks to harness the powewr of fusion, so I fail to understand how it corresponds to multi-dimensionality.
That said, I do consider it *possible* that the alternate universe thing is true.
Edit: I just did a bit of searching and it was also seeking the Higgs boson, which I've done a bit of reading on. Some physicists refer to it, the "God particle." Leon Ledermen wrote a fun & interesting book of that title. He won a nobel for disproving parity. I THINK the Higgs field (describes as sort of a net made of these particles) may be important in string theory and finding the Higgs boson could go a long way toward proving that theory, thus multi-dimensionality.

According to the copenhagen many worlds interpretation of quantum physics, yes, it's possible that the universe splits everytime a quantum wavestate collapses. This means they'd have different histories.
However, there is no currently known test which would establish the multiverse concept. The best/most we can do right now is look for extra dimensions in our own universe.
Also, the supercollider may TECHNICALLY create fusion, it's primary goal is subatomic research, not fusion research.
Imagine slamming two uranium atoms together at near the speed of light. Lots of momentum there. For a little while, those nuclei WILL join, but more importantly, they'll then explode into a quark plasma. THAT's what the physicists working onthe supercollider are interested in.

Why must I be an intelligent atheist to answer this?
The purpose of the project is certainly not to prove the premise of a Hollywood movie.
It doesn't matter if there are multiple universes or dimensions. There is one history in our universe, and our future will be the result of every good and bad decision we've made throughout our history.
By the way, the purpose of the Super Collider is to create a sufficient quantity of anti-matter so that we will have enough to play with...our own little BIG BANG!

This project was beign carried out in (I beleive the reagan administration and abandoned(could be wrong) after over a billion was spent. there was no given reason other than the christian reasoning that we should not look into gods work, or the unknown danger.
The iidea is to produce massive, but cheap energy.all other information gained is a plus, and there are expected to be many unanswered questions answered.

Smitty,
So what intelligence did you show in answering the question? None that I can see so be careful of who you make fun of, your God doesn't like that now does he?
I don't know the answer to the question but will do some research and try to find out because it looks interesting.

Aw man, I guess I'm not an intelligent atheist. I have NO idea what you're talking about! But I do thank you for the implied compliment.

I have heard of the project. I do not know the specifics of it, though. I do not think it is for what you describe.
