with lines, it soon returned to normal. does this mean the tv is going out? please advise.

The picture tube could be going out or it could be another part I believe is called a high voltage regulator.

The best answer I can muster is based on pure guess work but helped by years of fixing TVs ( most of them though were on a bench in front of me ) .First thing that comes to mind is a fault that causes the pic tube ( CRT ) to lose its heater voltage caused by a dry soldered joint either on the neck board of the CRT or the flyback transformer from where the heater voltage originates, these faults are very common. There are other avenues to explore but since you say that the fault corrected itself suggests that the dry joint theory is good !. I would not worry about it until it happens again and it probably will . That is about as good as I can do so good luck on it !!!

If your tv is close to any speakers, the magnets in the speakers
can magnatize your tv, causing pinkish colored spots on the screen.
