This is a question I've been asking myself for a long time. I wonder if it's because they've had a really bad day at work and came home and didn't want to be there either. They sit down at the computer and take out their anger and frustration and self-hatred with vitrolic words without fear of retribution. They don't go back to see what others have said about them because they weren't interested in helping to begin with. They don't like themselves so what do they care about what others think of them? They're weak-minded individuals who feel they are entitled to state their opinion because these forums are open to everyone. They know if they said in person what they say here, they probably would get knocked flat.
They probably go to this category because they know they'll find the most vulnerable people here. For one brief moment they can feel in their own mind that they're better than that person--no matter how bad their own stinking life is, because after all, it's not THEIR fault life dealt them a bad hand. If they're going to be miserable, so is everyone else. It's the weak going after the weaker. Do you see what I'm getting at?
All any of us can do at this point is to report them for abuse. There's a long checklist of grievance areas to choose from and then you have the opportunity to state your reason for reporting that person. Your identity is kept secret. Also, giving them a thumbs down gives a little satisfaction for the moment. As I said, they probably won't see it, but others who may be tempted to respond in a similar way will and hopefully will think twice.
Good for you for bringing this up. Sounds like you've got a large group of responsible, intelligent people answering you.

Actually it has happend to me today.I have posted a question in different catergories re:9/11 and some guy babybro kept answering each of them but really being rude saying for me to leave it alone because the people affected by it don't wanna hear about it anymore. I am one of the people affected by it. I shouldn't have to indicate that.
And i don't know why they do that but if they don't relate to the questions or if they don't like it. Why answer it and be rude?
i think that a person that does that has low self esteem and isn't happy with their life so they try to put others down.

That's just a necessary, although rude and inconsiderate, side effect of an open forum. I would rather anyone be allowed to say anything, rather than have Yahoo censor questions and answers by picking a choosing what they deem "appropriate."
I'm sure you're smart enough to recognize the serious answers from the rude.

I agree with you. I believe there are people who come on here just to give mean answers. These are the same people who ask hurtful questions. They will go to the religion section and say something anti-God. We all are entitled to our own opinions, but these people carry it too far.
For example, if I am not interested in movies, I am not going to go to that section and give inappropriate answers. We all have choices, some just make the wrong choices.

I agree. It is sooo easy to be so darn sarcastic and say nasty remarks about others who posted a question, because it masks the reality that they really need to throw in significant amount of time and energy in order to process their thoughts and pretend as if they know the answers. And that really hurts.
IT HURTS when you were not born intelligent enough to provide sensible answers to sensible questions, so in order to mask their unspeakably desireless talent for false pretentions, they end up responding to serious questions with cynicism and hurtful remarks.
Poor kids....

People will type in things they would never say face to face. They think they are being funny, but somethings are just so mean. I will give flip answers to real jerky or perverted questions, but never to a serious one.

because people often tend to say what they don't like to hear,
its called insecurity, instability and low self esteem.
it gets worse because they start doing it more often and it becomes them the only problem is that their self esteem goes lower.
its a shame how people don't even try to help themselves by helping others,
the questions they should be posting should be about finding help for themselves.
P.S they know who they are.

It`s called PERSONALITY OF THE REAL OUTSIDE WORLD OF A PERSON.
You a computer and the Internet is something that can be personal just like your phone hence you can be more open in Yahoo!answers than to another person....You see what i mean.
Going to a Psychologist or social worker is more difficult than giving your feelings to Internet advice sites like this one but help them when it`s serious don`t be sarcastic just anyhow like other yahoo!answers users...........

Another version of the same answer, but this forum gives people an opportunity to be nasty and rude anonymously...and perhaps it is the only one they often get so they're extra nasty. Bad, nasty, little, you-know-whats.
