I offer an analogy for their choices....
Like the Republicans, the elephant charges onward destroying anything it happens to walk on or over.
The Democrats are stubborn, as is the Donkey, in changing their ways.

The Donkey— Presidential candidate Andrew Jackson was the first Democrat ever to be associated with the donkey symbol. His opponents during the election of 1828 tried to label him a "jackass" for his populist beliefs and slogan, "Let the people rule." Jackson was entertained by the notion and ended up using it to his advantage on his campaign posters.
But cartoonist Thomas Nast is credited with making the donkey the recognized symbol of the Democratic Party. It first appeared in a cartoon in Harper's Weekly in 1870, and was supposed to represent an anti-Civil War faction. But the public was immediately taken by it and by 1880 it had already become the unofficial symbol of the party.
The Elephant— Political cartoonist Thomas Nast was also responsible for the Republican Party elephant. In a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, Nast drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled "The Republican Vote." That's all it took for the elephant to become associated with the Republican Party.

The elephant is a very intelligent animal and also has human-like emotions and apparently you have never been to wild animal parks or zoos in the United States of America, because we have hundreds of elephants in this country including the ones who have been born here.

I think it is a very valid question and interesting suggestions. A couple of you weren't entirely fair to the asker. I believe the asker just needed to be educated on how these symbols came about to represent the political parties. Thanks to Kfaulk211 for offering the information. Most average people do not know those little facts. I know it's sad, but it's true.

Republicans use the Elephant becuase that is the animal that can dump the largest load of crap on you.
Democarates use the Donkey because its stubbron and won't move to get out of its own way.
Both polital parties are dinosaurs of corruption that need to have all their leaders tried for treason.

I'd keep the elephant for the republican party. It represents a trained circus animal which is exactly what the republican party is.
