As many as the system resources (memory and hard drive space) will allow. You will run out of memory and crash your PC before you will reach the limits of the Excel program itself. How many you can open will vary from PC to PC, and from time to time. If you have anything else running, you will not be able to open as many pages. You freed up more hard drive space, you may be able to open more pages. So there is no specific number answer to this question.
