last term, i was in my american lit class and my professor asked us, what would more likely happen first, a black president of the united states, or a middle easterner president of the united states. i guessed black, because most people would not vote for a middle easterner president due to the linkage to ideas of terrorism. my professor said, its more likely for a middle easterner to become president because white america hates black america that much. it didnt make sense to me back then, and it still doesnt, so i want to ask all of you, who would you more likely vote on just by what they are, not by who they are, a black president or a middle eastern descent president? please tell me why. No jokes please, thank you!!!

i just want to add that i know that you can be a black and a racist, but i was trying to say that he is black, and also that he is not a racist. he was talking about something through history, but i was disagreeing with him because he said that a person of middle eastern descent would have more of a chance to become president than a black person.

My professor was definitely way off! Nobody chose to vote for the person of middle eastern descent.

I will vote for Condoleezza Rice when she runs. That will put to bed these stupid racist questions. And your so-called professor is a racist and should have his testes removed so he doesn't breed more racists.

Sadly, this isn't far off the mark. A lot of people vote for the president based on looks or charisma over qualifications & policy. I suppose it's akin to why people revere movie stars the way they do. Sad, really.

I suppose I would vote for the black candidate if I *had* to vote on this criteria alone. For one thing, it's about time African-Americans are given their fair shake at government (and I don't mean state government like Marion Barry). After all that the caucasians have done to their race in the past, don't they deserve it?

For another thing (and obviously this is a gross generalization & not indicitive of every man of Middle Eastern descent) from my *personal* experience & knowlege of Middle Eastern men, that race is widly seen as highly misogynistic. I wouldn't want to take the chance of someone who regards females as second class citizens as our Commander in Chief.

And for the record, every person on this planet has prejudices about *someone*. It's human nature. It doesn't excuse disgusting racist behavior, but those who are quick to say "I'm not prejudice/racist" do have their own, however minute they may be.

That would be tough, because I would feel racist either way. I would hope that my decision would be made on their political and moral views, but I'm not that naiive. I guess what I could say is that I agree with you, that a black pres would be elected first, becuase there is such power behind the black minority. There are so many political power houses like the ACLU. I mean yes, there are racists out there who would be against a black pres, but how many people who would have never voted at all would vote only because he was black? It's interesting to think about.

I would vote for whoever was most qualified but I totally agree with you, I think America will vote for a black president over a middle easterner due to the terrorist link. Apparently your professor has had some bad personal experience. And, by the way, just because he is black, doesn't mean he can't also be racist.

I would probably come nearer voting for a black president. I have known some black men that I respect and admire greatly, that I think would make very good presidents. I will have to admit that I really don't know many middle eastern people, so that probably skews my outlook somewhat. By the way, I don't hate black America, but I do hate the reverse racism we are always seeing from black America. We could never get by with a White History Month, an NAAWP, or Affirmative Action for non-blacks in Major Sports.

Are you serious? Anyone can be racist, even a black professor.

I think your professor is wrong in his speculation that america would elect a middle easterner before a black person.
I think, depending on the person, on the issue of race alone, america would vote for a black person over a middle eastern person.

An American of middle eastern decent looks like pretty much like any other Caucasian American (especially someone of a European Mediterranean background). As long as they didn't have an accent they would have no problem. But I don't think we are very far from having a black president either so I don't think it would make a difference either way.

Assuming they were the same on policy issues and assuming that the media and opposing party didn't dig up anything horrible on them (like terrorist connections or evidence of anti-white sentiments) then I think I would abstain. I'd feel too bad about myself if I resorted to choosing someone based on skin color or heritage. And with regard to the Middle Eastern hypothetical candidate ... you KNOW that they would have been under intense scrutiny before they made it that far in politics anyway!

2006-09-08 04:15:04 · answer #8 · answered by Kris 4 · 0 1

Anyone who would vote for someone because of the color of their skin doesn't deserve to vote. It doesn't matter what color a person is as long as they are going to do what is best for their country. A president can only become that way if he was a born citizen of this country, so the theory of a middle-easterner is moot. Thank you.

Just so you know, your professor was the racist and not you. It doesn't make sense to you because this wouldn't make sense to any logically thinking person. I'm not sure personally who I would vote for because I'd have to know what their politics were.

A Black. MiddleEastern (I presume you mean Moslem) would never be accepted. By the way, what is this question doing in an American Lit Class anyway? Your professor or teacher must be a radical left-winger since they are the ones pushing political agenda items in classes they have no business to. This should be reported to the faculty (as if they aren't liberal enough already!)
