I ask, because I know so many white people with hair curlier than mine who straighten their hair. I'm not trying to be racist or anything, I just noticed some of these questions people are asking. I personally staighten my hair because I need a change in style sometimes. I usually wear it curly.

To be 100% honest, the only women I hear accusing black women of "being white" because of straight hair are other black women! Sometimes I feel like black women are harder on each other than anything! I am married to a black man (i'm filipino) and the women in his family constantly accuse each other being "white" because of their hair or the way they talk and dress. What exactly does it mean to be "white?" Have nice, straight hair and nice clothes that don't scream Roca-Wear or Apple Bottoms?

People say stupid things all the time. If that were true, white woman who perm their hair could be accused of wanting to be black. We all get tired of the same thing and need a change now and then. You do what you want and don't worry about other people.

I don't know that Black women are accused of wanted to be White for relaxing or straightening their hair. But I do know that some Black women may choose to relax or straighten their hair because they feel that their natural hair texture is bad, and they are in hot pursuit of what some call 'good' hair. And I have heard people try to educate that just because your hair may be nappy (i.e. extremely tight curls) that it does not mean that it is not 'good'. For some, straightening the hair is a form of self denial. But it seems that for you this is not the case. I am Black, and I choose to wear my hair natural, but this does not mean that I think that my comrades who chose to relax or straighten their hair are trying to be White. It is a personal choice for me, and feel that a person's hairstyle is their own personal choice. I applaud this choice, as long as it does not involve one thinking that their natural hair is 'bad.'

I don't know why people would feel like that. That's like assuming because Halley Berry cuts her hair short, she wants to be a man... or because a guy gets his tips frosted, he wants to be a girl. People shouldn't be so closed minded. Does a White person who tans their skin so much, they become darker than me hate being white and are trying to be black??? What a person chooses to do styalistically and fashionably shouldn't have anything to do with, them trying to be another race. It's their perrogative.. they may want a change. I get tired of looking at my hair being the same color too long. I change colors like crazy. It's a good question you asked..I don't know why..but I wish people would get God and get a life...and maybe a hair cut..or extensions..or highlights...or...

Yeah... people have a tendency to make mountains out of molehills. people do exactly issues because, as a rule, all of us want what we are able to not have. i do not imagine it truly is inevitably a black or white ingredient both... Redheads favor to be blonde, curly-haired people favor to straighten, obese ladies favor to be skinny, skinny ladies want curves... the record is going on. it truly is basically human nature... I trust you that persons might want to no longer choose others and act like someone's' going to lose their ethnicity over a change like that

Well I heard that statement so many times from other black women who wears short fros or dreads, saying that were loosing our identify by pressing and perming our hair so we can look like white women. I use to say, you can't wear fros and dreads to black tie affairs, or nice functions. Don't let them get next to you. I was invite to a formal affair and everybody were wearing gowns and tuxedos and the women's hair was done up, I come walking in with dress to impress and a fro and it didn't work.

There is no reason. White girls do the same thing. Curly and straight.
Don't worry about it. Some people are just mean.

I haven't heard that one before. Besides, it's your hair, wear it any way you want too. Also, people suck, as a rule, just ignore them, and if they say something, hit them in their stupid face as hard as you can.
