I don't know if this is common everywhere but in this part of Michigan it seems to be. I (and most everyone I know) went to school 5 half days a week, but my son goes full day on Tuesday, Half day on Wednesday and then a full day on Friday. What is the reasoning behind this?

It can help some people w/ their schedules: they can work full days sometimes, or get chores done (like Dr's appointments) that would be tough to schedule w/ all half days.

Teachers can plan activities that won't fit into half days.

It can also expose the child to full day school, w/o wearing them out every day.

The cons would be complicated logistics, and not everyone's work schedule works w/ this.

i dont know what their reasoning is with that. but my kids school started on half days when my older son was in K and when my second son went to K they were in the process of making K a full day. and now K is full day 5 days a week. i guess the teachers need an extra 2 days off.

It sounds like the school district is trying to abide by some crazy state regulation on how much school kindergartners need. That or trying to use one teacher to teach 2 sets of kids. Here in Texas, kindergarten is full-day 5 days per week in the public schools.

Different parts of the country is different. In the NE it's 5 half days, and in the SE it's 5 full days.

You would have to check with your school to see why they do it, but I will answer what the advantage of this is for you and your child. Keeping a schedule like that will more likely give you a greater opportunity to bond with your child during those formative years. You have to go over everything every day to make sure you are on track with which day it is. (Yes, it is a pain in the neck, however, it can serve a humbling purpose.)
