Overdose
Symptoms:
Overdosage of trazodone may cause an increase in incidence or severity of any of the reported adverse reactions, e.g. hypotension and excessive sedation. In one known suicide attempt, the patient presented with symptoms of drowsiness and weakness 3 hours after ingesting 7.5 g (12.5 times the maximum daily dose) of trazodone. Recovery was uneventful. Death by deliberate or accidental overdosage has not been reported.
Treatment:
There is no specific antidote for trazodone. Management of overdosage should, therefore, be symptomatic and supportive. Any patient suspected of having taken an overdosage should be admitted to hospital as soon as possible and the stomach emptied by gastric lavage. Forced diuresis may be useful in facilitating elimination of the drug.
If you are prescribed this medication it indicates that you doc thinks you are anxious (my bet) or you are depressed or both.
If you have a spouse, perhaps you should ask them to keep the pills for you and make sure you take them every night. That way neither you nor your daughter will see them or abuse them.
If your daughter and you are this depressed, maybe you should schedule some "fun time". Make time to walk around, play basketball, make cookies, go to the beach, or just exercise together. People need each other, as do all family members. Having fun will up your serotonin levels, help you sleep, and can be great fun. None of the meds for depression actually cure it, they control its severity, give you time to recover, or condem you to taking pills for the rest of your life. I would include a diet and exercise change and tell yor doctor that you would like to take a medication that has less affects on your circulatory system, something you could tak as needed or taper off of easily while you establish some coping mechanisms and support groups. Be blatant, tell him you do not like taking pills. Ask for a referal to a good therapist who will talk with you and help your figure out coping mechanisms and triggers.
Make it a family competitiion or part of your prescription that you have to include your family; tell them they need to join you to make sure you stick to your new regimen. You could help yourself and any suicidal individuals in the house by getting the whole family involved in cooking balanced meals, taking calcium and mineral supplements, and have some type of exercise/recreation planned on a weekly basis. If you are ready to leave this life, why not have a bit of responsible fun that will not hurt anyone else and maybe even give yourself and others more reasons to live. Lean a new skill, go scuba diving, horse back riding, or collect shells or watch birds or squirrels.
Life is stressful, so find some time to enjoy, a good book, a massage (my favorite), a walk, playing with pets, playing with your kids (tennis to cards), volunteering with no expectations of rewards (because besides maybe a thanks, you will not get any. You do it for your satisfaction.), sewing, reading, writing ... are all good reasons to live and enjoy.
Also don't run from your problems, but tackle one small one a day until you can get to the big ones. I cleaned up the front yard Monday, I watered it Tuesday, mowed it Wednesday (felt so good I did the laundry and swept), today I mopped and fertilized the yard and took the dogs for a walk). My point is I felt I did not want to get out of bed, talk to anyone, or .... well I was down in the depths on Sunday. Getting one thing done helped a lot. It has been a very good week. I hope you have one.
Good luck!

As said by everyone else, any drug can cause an overdose if taken in large quantities.
Trazadone IS an antidepressant. It is NOT a mood stabilizer. Another name for it is Desyrel. It can be used to improve sleep and reduce anxiety and anger in persons with bipolar disorder.
Regardless of what the drug is, you should be responsible and put it high enough up so your daughter can't reach it. Be sure to ask your pharmacist for child-proof caps.

Be careful with this medication. I have od on this med before and the side effects last for weeks. I have nerve damage now. What would happen to your daughter if she got a hold of it? Its a powerful drug.Make sure you want to take this medication. Their are better meds out there.

Everything is dangerous when an overdose occurs, even tylenol or aspirin. Ask yourself if you really need this medication before you start taking something that will tamper with your thinking processes.
