There are those of you who hate God and Christians, but why do you attack because we believe differently. We just live our lives differently. We believe in Jesus and the Bible. I don't attack those who do not believe the way I do, So why does it happen to us? I think the word... is ingnorant.

If people think that the gospel is intolerant--Jesus is our only Savior for a fallen humanity--that's their problem with God, not us. Christians didn't make up that doctrine, we're just being obedient. Jesus said, "blessed are you when you are persecuted", so don't fight back. You'll receive your reward in heaven! And I've come to realize also that "following Jesus is NOT the default position", which means that it takes effort and hard work, it doesn't come naturally. Keep on keeping on...

There are a multitude of reasons that people "attack" others.

1) They feel threatened so they defend themselves.
2) They do not have an answer to an argument that
doesn't agree with their beliefs. This causes them
to become insecure so, in their pain, they attack.
3) Some people just like to stir the pot, create the chaos
and then sit back and enjoy the mess they'ver
created.
4) Some are just miserable people.

Take your pick. But if you are secure in what you believe then it shouldn't threaten you when someone attacks you or what you believe. Contrary to what many on this site will tell you, the truth is the truth. It is not conditional and no amount of trash talk or rhetoric will make it less than the truth. If you are a Christian, then take the example of Christ who humbled Himself and made us and our needs more important than His own. He humbled Himself subjecting Himself to all kinds of persecution, even the death on the cross.

Or find solace in the words of Paul who tells us in Rom. 8:39 that not height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to seperate us from the love of God - which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. What can any person say or do to us that would change this? Nothing. So be at peace and be a reflection of that love with which God so richly blesses you.

Be ready to give a reason for the hope that lies within you but do this in gentleness and meekness. (I Pet. 3:16)

Who is more ignorant: Those who trust evidence or those who trust a book of myths from desert nomads? Don't talk to me about how atheists "hate" Christians. Christians have been passing hate around for the last two thousand years or so. The proclamations about obedience regardless of quality, idealized xenophobia, the direct effots to halt scientific progress and discoveries that run counter to dogma...don't get me started. Any resentment the Christian faith has had aimed at it has been hard-earned.

I have little doubt that if certain groups had enough political power they would eagerly start up another Inquisition. Or Crusade. Or something even worse. All in the name of "God's love".

It's not ignorance. It's a fact of life for a believer that there will be opposition and the Bible says that in the last days there will persecution like you wouldn't believe. If you have no persecution, you're either not living your life to win others to Christ or you're not really a Christian. We don't attack back because it's forgiveness and one true way to win over people to the truth. Have you heard the story of Jim Elliott - they did a movie about it last year. Natives killed this group of missionaries and the wife came back to be a witness to them and an entire tribe was changed. When we get ourselves out of the way - it's amazing what God will step in and do in a situation.

"I think the word... is ingnorant" What word it that again??

But I'm sorry to inform you anyway, that although you feel I may be I g n o r a n t, there are plenty of Christians attacking those who aren't. You haven't been paying much attention if that's the way you see it.

Excuse me, I think you should take a look at more questions in this forum. And in the real world, for that matter. Christians routinely attack, denounce, defame and often physically assault those with whom they disagree. Then--like you--put put their hands, crying out about how they've been victimized.

Nor are Christians alone in this. Every faith and group and race does the same sooner or later.

For the record, I am a devout Christian (although not in any sense a Fundamentalist).

Some Christians get angry at being called names or denigrated on TV or in the movies and attack back by name calling or protesting this or that or worse. However, Jesus said in John 15:18 "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you." So, consider it a blessing that the world hates and attacks you, it means you are doing something right!!

I applaud your intentions, but unfortunately, some of our Christian brothers are misguided and think that telling people they are terrible and are going to burn in hell is somehow fulfilling Jesus' example of loving sinners. They do great damage. Non-believers won't remember their brief encounters with you and me, but they will remember the red-faced Christian who told them they are ignorant and hell-bound and that they'd BETTER accept Jesus before they BURN! "If only you were as holy as ME maybe God would love you as much as He loves me....and I won't love you until you're a whole lot more like ME." That is such a damaging message and a false representation of the love that Jesus taught us. We are to love people where they're at, but we don't have to condone immoral or bad behavior. We sometimes call people out on their destructive behaviors, but we need to be careful that we make a distinction between when we do that in the same way that a non-Believer does that as a concerned human being, and when we do that in the name of our Lord. If people know you love them, you don't have to tell them that you disagree with their choices. They will know it. But if they don't first know that you love them, they won't care about what you have to say. Like I once heard a friend say, "Why would I want to follow a God who wants to find any reason to put me in hell?" That's OUR fault that they receive that message. And that's why we are attacked.

I don't know if this will help you, but it gives me comfort when I'm attacked because of my beliefs:

"Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the suffering of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you...if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear the name."

Why did Christ not call upon 10000 angels at His disposal to remove Him from the cross and punish His oppressors?

The answer is LOVE.

We are created in the image of God, and Christians are filled with the Holy Spirit. This allows us to reflect the love of God to a dark world...to turn the other cheek...to give not only the shirt, but the coat, too, from our back to the needy...to love and pray for our enemies. Why? Because God loves all of us...Christ died for all of us...and Christians' profound gratitude for that far exceeds any evil desire for revenge. The victory is ours in the end...have compassion on the haughty and unbelievers.
