I can't afford the cost of the obedience schools in our area right now. Can anyone recommend a good book? My dog is a 4 month old mutt (1/2 long-haired chi and 1/2 yorkie) if that helps.

I have Puppies for Dummies and another on housetraining. TIA.

It is best to try to get an instructor rather than do it all your self, especially if you have no experience.

Instead of going to Petsmart or other big chains, try looking for individuals that train dogs- they are much cheaper. Some kennel clubs hold free classes.

If you or someone in your family is under the age of 19, you can go to free obedience classes through 4-h.

Honestly, an untrained dog can be a real pain - a risk to himself, his owner and to other people and animals. Owning an undisciplined dog may result to:
- Destruction to your home
- Social isolation
- Accidents
- Injuries
- Legal claims against you
- Stress to all concerned
- The dog being unwanted

Canines that always get their own way will believe that life revolves around them and for that reason they must be important. Since dogs are looking for controlling different resources than humans, their bid for power usually goes undetected until it’s too late. Obedience and house training your dog and ensuring he’s not raised to a top position inside the home will keep your relationship with him well-balanced in your favor, as it must be for satisfaction all round.

I'll send you immediately the ebook (100% free) and some tips on how to live better with your dog.

Check out any websites relating to "The Dog Whisperer" His name is Cesar Milan, and he really knows his stuff.
I believe he sells books and videos and stuff. He gives a lot of excellent training tips on line.
