A few days ago some mormon (from the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints) stopped by my house to talk to me about their religion. Not now anything about their religion made me curious to learn, so I allowed them to speak to me. As I listened their ways there was several things I didn't agree with, especially how they base their church on their families. The way the men kept talking bout that and the kind of things they did in their church services made me wonder if their religion was cult. Does anyone know?

Yes, the religion is a cult. Any religion that attempts to separate people from those who love them and teach isolation is a cult.

I keep hearing all these experts commenting on our LDS belief,
and hardly anyone really know who we are.

Yes , we are different, but that does not make us wrong.

We answer all questions about us, so long it is sincere.

By the definition of "Cult", you can call Jesus Christ a cult leader in his time too. So don't give me that cult label.

We work we pay taxes just like every body else, family is important to us, and we study the Bible, and The book of Mormon.
We go to church every Sunday, and we supports our neighborhood boyscout.
You have the right to disagree with us ,
but don't give me that " they have a different Jesus Christ" stuff,
as far as I concern, you all christians worship differently too,
so don't act so surprise in how we worship.

No. I too disagree with several of their teachings but they are not a cult.

A cult can be identified by a religious movement that does one or several of three things:

1. Money donations required to "move up" or gain special knowledge.
2. Punishment for associating with non-members.
3. Sex being used in ritual activities.

That is my own personal definition and many may disagree with some or all of my assertions (namely Scientologists and some, but not all, sects of Wicca and Celtic religions).

Technically it is a religion because it has tax exemptions (last I heard)...

Otherwise yes many of their religious practices do not add up like the thing on marriage (supposedly they have the typically Christian one-wife-to one husband rule, but it appears several of them have many wives)...and some other unusual things like the discrepancies between their Bible and the Catholic/Protestant Bibles...

Only way to find out for sure is if someone can infiltrate the Mormons...but I seriously doubt anyone's gonna try this.

Cult or false religion...they add to the Holy Bible the works of their church's founder in the Book of Mormon.

They sound good, many believe in Jesus, but they also believe more things that are not Biblical.

Yes it is , all religions are cults because they all teach different things and the doctrines of men and not of God, you can just about walk into any church and see lots of idols. What does the bible say about graven images? I just want to add that Jehovah's witnesses is the most deadliest cult around, they even wrote their own bible!

They don't believe that Jesus Christ the Lord is one God but there are at least two Gods in finite human forms if not myriads and myriads of Gods. It is a tiered religion where they tell you one thing when you join and another when you are trusted.

Mormons think they can become Gods and win their own planet thus they can surpass Jesus Christ as Gods.

Therefore it severly dimishes the Lord and offends the Lord who is that one and very Self that has life in Himself.

The Truth About Mormonism

Most LDS (This stands for Latter Day Saint, That's what they like to call themselves) won't tell you what the Church believes because it is so bizarre. These strange beliefs are the reason mainline Christians Churches say that Mormonism is a non-christian cult. In the next paragraph I will tell you what they believe and add what the Bible teaches on the subject where appropriate.
Mormons teach that our god is a glorified man. A being of flesh and bone. The Bible makes it very clear that God is spirit. The Mormon god stated out in the great expanse of uncreated space. There in the darkness of a pre-spiritual existence, god the father, Jesus, you, and I will there all equal and co-eternal. Then a god had sexual intercourse with one of his wives and our god was given a spiritual body. He happened to be the first born of this god so he became the savior of this god's world just like Jesus is for our world. He lived, and taught Mormonism to those who would listen to mine. He died just like Jesus did here and if others on that world would repent and be baptized by the Mormon priest there and live to the end of their lives in righteousness they were allow to return to their god. If they didn't measure up they were assigned to other kingdoms that that god has created for them. Kingdoms overseen by their savior (who became our god) and another valiant spirit that was given the office of holy ghost. (What do you think, is this getting complex?) After the end of the world that our god did his mortal ministry on, he was given many worthy females at he could have sex with and thereby create spirit children (us) to send to a world that he created. Oh, by the way these worlds weren't really created they were organized out of the matter available in space (matter is co-eternal with god and can't be created or destroyed). Jesus was the first born of our god and Lucifer the second born (who became the devil). Can you believe this Mormons don't just say that Jesus is our spiritual brother but also he and we are brothers of Satan. Lucifer wanted to force us all to be good and bring us all back to god Jesus wanted to give us freedom to make our own decision. Jesus won this battle and became god the son. Well Mormons believe this process is repeated again and again. It is their goal to live a perfect life through their first principles of their gospel they are:
1. Faith in the Mormon Jesus
2. Baptism by immersion (Done only by their priests)
3. Laying on of hands for the gift of the Mormon Holy Ghost ( Done only by their elders)
4. Repentance ( You have to repent of every sin you commit, You better have a good memory)
5. Enduring to the end of your life in righteousness. Go to step 4 each time to you sin.
Along with this there is marriage in the Mormon temple (You can't become a god without being married). Everyone is also asked to pay a full tithe (Ok they got one thing right) and do volunteer service for the church (They have no paid ministry. That isn't bad either but someone should tell them that pastoring a local christian church is a full time and a half job and it doesn't pay well at all. Men and women that do it are called of God No one would go into that kind of work on their own.. Jim

I kind of think so. I've done lots of research on all religions for my young adult class at church. And there were a lot of things that did not add up.
