Ear infections are not caused by bad parenting, immunizations, bottle-feeding instead of breast-feeding, or going out without a hat. Statistically, more than 75 % of children get an ear infection before age 3. Everyone has eustachian tubes, small passages that connect the middle ear to the back of the throat behind the nose. Middle ear infections occur when bacteria or a virus get into the eustachian tubes and cause inflammation. Many ear infections are able to clear up on their own without antibiotic use. Factors such as heredity, enlarged adenoids, underdeveloped eustachian tubes, and still developing immune systems contribute to ear infections.
So, while ear infections are the second most common childhood illness next to the common cold, not all children will get an ear infection. It is not weird at all, but normal for your child.

No it's not weird your just one of the lucky ones..
Like sevenofus said ear infections are not caused by bad parenting, bottle feeding instead of breast feeding, or going out without ears being covered. If it was cause by these things then I guess over 50% or more of the population are bad parents if that was the case.
My son would get an ear infection every time he had a tooth come in. My daughter didn't get an ear infection until she started school and that was caused from a cold and sinus infection.

No. My oldest has had only maybe 2 ear infections and he's 5 1/2. you child must have a very good immune system. I also have 2 other children and one is more prone to getting ear infections. Don't know why, his twin had only had 1 by age 2.

My 3 sons got ear infections when they were babies. My daughter got her first ear infection when she was 5 years old. She did not have to see the doctor because she was sick until she was 3 or 4 years old. .

No, it isn't weird. I have had one ear infection in my life and that was as an adult. I do not have children of my own. I have three nieces and none of them have ever had an ear infection (I just asked).
I think we are so used to seeing children with chronic ear infections that we find it odd when they don't have them.

No it's not weird, especially if the child was nursed. My child is 2 1/2 and hasn't had an ear infection either.

I have 3 kids (ages 7.5 years, 5.5 years and 3.5 years) and as far as I know, NONE of them have ever had ear infections. They were all breastfed well beyond 12 months, which does help reduce the chances of ear infections. They also never went to daycare, which has to help as well.
My nephews weren't breastfed and had SO many problems with ear infections when they were younger (got tubes inserted), and now have allergies and asthma. When they were younger it seemed like they were always sick. (They are now 12 years and 9 years old.) I can't help look at them and wonder if it would have been different if their mom had nursed them.
