Try avoiding alcohol the night before is a good start. Try drinking a large glass of water prior to going to bed. This will assist with keeping your body hydrated during the night.

My sister has the same problem and hers is definitely sinus problems. She started taking a pain reliever (tylenol 3) every morning and it helped but then she developed "rebound" headaches which occur when your body craves the medication, so she now just gets up without taking any meds and sometimes the pain goes away when the sinuses drain, or she might need to take something especially for sinuses like Sinutab if it still hurts.
Other reasons for morning headaches could be sleeping in a stuffy room or your head covered with the sheet, etc, reading before sleep in bed, but not sitting up - lying flat is hard on the eyes and so is reading with insufficient light. Also, if you can, have your nose checked out. Maybe there isn't enough air getting through. You may have a deviated septum which can cause blockage of air. Try closing one nostril and sniffing, then the other and you will be able to tell if a nostril is not getting enough air through. It could also be caused by tension if you cannot relax while you are sleeping. There is lots of info out there on relaxation techniques to help you wake up more refreshed. There are lots more reasons, so if possible see the doctor and get it checked out. Good Luck.

You could be pinching a nerve in your neck from the position you sleep in. How is your pillow? Is it firm enough? Too firm? If you sleep on your back or stomach, you should have a softer pillow. If you sleep on your side, you should have a firmer pillow to keep your head aligned with your spine.

Are you grinding your teeth at night? Perhaps you need to see your dentist and get fitted for a mouth guard.

Do you have caffeine, nitrates (processed meats, cheeses, etc), or alcohol after 7:00pm? These are migraine triggers.

How much stress is in your life right now? It may be disturbing your sleep patterns, causing you to get less REM sleep at night.

Its more than likely a sinus problem. When you lay down you probably are clogging up your sinuses and that is leading to a sinus headache first thing in the morning. As you get up and start to move around its starts to drain. You might want to go to a doctor to give you something to take before bed. You can also try sleeping propped up and see if that helps.

You may have sleep apnea. If you snore and gasp for air while you are sleeping your airway is being blocked. The headache is from lack of oxygen. See a doctor.

I used to get the same thing, as well as having heaches all day. I got my eyes tested and the pain stopped when I had my glasses.

Try opening a window, to make sure that you are getting enough fresh air while you sleep.

See a doctor.

you maybe slept to much or you did not have enough fresh air in your room, open a window a bit or get a way of have ventilation in your room
