Art isn't just about drawing. It's about appreciation. It's about being creative. You can create art with a digital camera, computer and a copy of photo shop - better than a pencil and paper. Go to Tibosoftware for a sample of some jigsaw puzzles and do them and display them in the art gallery supplied with it. We have a Jigsaw and art group on Yahoo groups. look on my site for a screen shot of the virtual art gallery.

I work at a school and I have organised an art club for the children and I can't draw. You can learn to do anything if you put your mind to it, go on give it a go what have got to loose? I have been told by many 'good' drawers that drawing is about shapes and perspective, if they are right then you can learn same as I can it is just a matter of giving it time and effort.

Of course you can learn, that's why there is a class. Some people might have natural talent, but a class can teach you technique, which should help. Besides, if it's something that you end up enjoying, that's what is most important. Very few people become world famous artists, but millions of people are able to have fun and express themselves through art.

Yes, you can learn how to draw and paint reasonably well, enough to be able to make an OK likeness, but if you don't have natural talent then you probably won't become a world-famous artist. Sorry. The skills of looking at things and learning about proportion and perspective and how to control a pencil and stuff like that - those can be learned.

There are books that lead you step by step to teach you how to draw. These books show you neat tricks and tips on how to accomplish what ever you are attempting to draw. I got an art scholarship out of high school and never drew a thing! Art is not just drawing! There are other forms of art out there like ceramics, hell paint in abstract! You just have to experiment with different forms of art and find your "calling" you never know till you try! Just remember to practice and do not get frustrated just because you can not draw! Close you eyes and just let it flow out of you. Sounds cheesy I know, but the key is to relax and feel it!

While you may never be a Leonardo you can learn to draw and paint. If you think about it we all drew as kids and writing is drawing. I taught myself to draw and sketch to what some people have said is a professional standard. The "secret" is practise and still more practise.
Try getting hold of a book called "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. I found it to be immensely helpful.

Good Luck.

To be really good at it .. if that is your goal (?) .. Then I would have to say that some of it is a natural talent that you are born with. But if you are taking the course for fun .. then who cares ? Just draw your heart out and have some fun ! I'm sure your drawing skills will improve with practice and the instructors tips.
Good luck and have fun ! :)

Drawing is a learned activity. I was rubbish at drawing once too, and then I took a course. I got better with practice. The professor told us that in order to learn to draw we needed to devote so many hours a week to practice. You can do it!

Why should it matter? If you enjoy drawing and painting then just take the course for the enjoyment of it. It will relax you and be fun. Maybe you will learn to draw better and maybe you won't but it would be fun just to take the course and learn something new wouldn't it?

go for it. i know a girl from my school days, who was a terrible artist, but after completing the course ,she definately improved.
my son draws better then i do ,and he has improved by practising and using books which are aimed at helping. i do think anyone can learn ,at least to improve, you mostly need the desire.
