I have been thinking that it would be a good idea to impliment a program in elementary schools that would be like the fire drills they have, only they would be molester drills. It would start off with a local police officer doing a talk with the kids about stranger safety and lead into sometime that week having an "attempted attack" , but how could this be done without scaring the children too much? and are they any programs out there similar to this? I wouldn't want to traumatize anyone but rather, teach the basics to avoid molested children. Maybe even set up a course teaching awarenes or self defense at the schools?. Only serious answers please...no rude ones either, Thank you

The reason I suggest the schools having a program is because on the way to or from is a great way for these molesters to get their hands on our children, our children need to be protected and the best way to do that when we aren't there is giving them knowledge...and I do agree that it is the parents' job to teach their children but so many don't do their job and then another child suffers.

Contact your local Police Dept... I'm positive they would provide the training with a smile on their face!!! They not only have the knowledge but the experience teaching subjects like this.

Horrible idea. First of all, the majority of children molested in this country are molested by someone they know-a close family member, friend, teacher, coach etc. Second, there are programs out there "say no and go" that teach kids to "thwart" attacks. However, when you teach "say no and go" to a group of kids and one of them in the room is being molested already, you are teaching that child that they have already done something wrong and lessening the likelihood that they will ever report the abuse. What PARENTS (and the main responsibility lies there) and teachers need to teach younger kids is about private body parts and that its not OK for other people to touch them and who they can tell if someone is touching them. Surprisingly, a lot of younger kids don't know that. For Teens, we need to teach them on-line safety-not to put thier personal info out there where everyone can reach it & that someone you meet online but don't otherwise know is still a stranger. We also need to teach adults to take kids complaints of abuse seriously and make the appropriate report when a kid tells them about abuse.

I think that is a bad idea. Children should be told by their parents about the dangers of molesters and sicko's. The school system doesn't need to get involved with educating kids about pedophiles because I don't think there is a way to do it in that public a forum, without scaring or making the children feel VERY uncomfortable. When parents teach them, it comes from someone they love and trust. It's a personal issue and should stay that way.

Did you know that most molesters are family members or people that the children know? It is very hard to teach about this. Parents should do it. Pehaps writing a manual for parents would be the best way to handle it.
