I'm confused as to why, when looking at certain replies to questions, Christians refer to themselves as "Not religious, just a Christian" which is a contradictory statement (considering Christianity is a religion with many different denominations). If you believe this, explain it to me, because as far as a logical person is concerned, that makes absolutely no sense.

Religion is man' ssearch for God. In religion, you must "do" things to attain God's favor.

Say the Rosary
5 Pillars of Islam
Sacrifice animals

It is works based.

That will be fifty cents, please.

The secular dictionary was written by secular mankind, thus a Christian is not always able to agree with the definitions offered therein.
Here is the difference: Religion says follow these rules. Act like this. We dress up on Sunday, dust off
our Bible, put on a smile and go
"act righteous" for an hour or so. Christianity - We go to church on fire, we have been in God's presence every day all week long.

Christianity is: A PERSONAL relationship with Jesus Christ. A knowing that he and he alone is our salvation. Christianity says: The people are drawn by the tangible presence of God. They know us by our love.
We go to church on fire, we have been in God's presence every day all week long.

We try not to act or be self righteous...We know that we will fall...we will fail...we are only saved sinners..

Because,

The Christian Faith in its pure form is a path or "The Way". People have made it a "religion" in every sense. But they seem to Worship their Doctrine more than they do God. I get asked all of the time. "What religion are you?" I answer. "I believe in God and Christ." They then ask. " No, I mean are you a And then I have to explain that I don't believe in Denominations. People think of church like it is a designer handbag.
" Oh well I go to the Prada church on 5 Th."
" Really I found this Spirit filling Gucci church on Landon St.."
" I'd like to try the Von Dutch on Windover Blvd."

I believe that it should be like a handmade shirt fitted by the Master, In which the whole of the Bible is Studied, Not just the take of it by someone who got fed up, with the last great person to get fed up with the Catholic church, who got fed up with the Early Church.

A lot of Christians don't like the negative connotation the word "religion" has received. I'm a Christian, but I do believe the word Christianity strikes fear in the hearts of a lot of people. Religion has been used a a justification for genocide, homocide, and war. I personally don't want to associate my faith and belief with things like that.

No, sorry. It's not a religion. It's a relationship between the created and their Creator. I do worship in a local church, but I do not follow a prescribed, regimented, religion.
Some Christians object to the word 'religion', because it has negative connotations. I do worship at a church, with a denomination, but I don't consider myself 'religious'

yes christians are a religion since is means a devoted belief. However, in todays terms its more meaningful to understand christians as followers of Christ rather than be identified with the masses of so many different religions. They are in a class of their own with devotion not to an organization as much as a person(God)

People, not just Christians, are reaised in a certain religion. I for example was raised a Catholic. However I would say "I'm not religious" in that I do not live a Catholic lifestyle. But I am Catholic.

It's symantics.

Christianity is NOT a religion, because it is a RELATIONSHIP with God.

Christians don't obey a set of rules, laws or commands, nor do they earn any benefit by doing so. We believe that salvation is a free gift, we didn't earn it, nor indeed can we.

We believe that God actually resides in us, and that he changes our nature over our lifetime to become just a little more like himself.

Religions are different; they have a set of rules which must be obeyed in order to gain any benefit.

what we mean is that the world dosn't need a religion it is a persional relationship with jesus christ ..we believe in the bible but christians is just a discription dosn't necesarily mean that everybody that calls themself a christian is saved from their sin!! the bible never says that you have to be a "christian" or a "baptist "or a "prodestant" thoes are just classifications that people gave us if they are truly saved ask them if they are" born again" and if they believe that jesus died for their sin and was buried and rose again on the 3 day,if they say no then they are just a denomination no diffrent than anybody else but in a way being a "born again bible believing christian" is a religion but it really isn't the focus of the believers life ..it's not ohh i have tho follow what my religion believes it is i have to follow what the holy bible says.
hope that helps!!! read the bible for all your questions it is NEVER wrong!! READ the book of John and Roamans IN THE BIBLE.

Christianity is a way of life, the religious part is only going to church to worship.
Christians are also worshiping as they live 24/7.

It is what they do, read, vote, eat, drink, work, and sleep.
