That answer was a George W. Bush burn! Awesome. Anyway, satan is the "evil" that a certain religion has made up so they have something to blame all the bad stuff happening in the world today on. Satan couldn't be a real person...and if you're a Christian (which I'm not) he couldn't be a person unless the second coming of Jesus Christ has happened and it's all about the apocolypse.

Satan was created as a holy angel. Isaiah 14:12 possibly gives Satan’s pre-fall name as Lucifer. Ezekiel 28:12-14 describes Satan as having been created a cherubim, and was apparently the highest created angel. He became arrogant in his beauty and status, and decided he wanted to sit on a throne above that of God (Isaiah 14:13-14; Ezekiel 28:15; 1 Timothy 3:6). Satan’s pride led to his fall. Notice the many “I will…” statements in Isaiah 14:12-15. Because of his sin, God threw Satan out of heaven.

Satan became the ruler of this world that functions apart from God, and the prince of the power of the air (John 12:31; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:2). He is an accuser (Revelation 12:10), a tempter (Matthew 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 3:5), and a deceiver (Genesis 3; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:3). His very name means adversary or “one who opposes.” Another name used for Satan, the devil, means “slanderer.”

Even though he was cast out of heaven, he still seeks to elevate his throne above God. He counterfeits all that God does, hoping to gain the worship of the world and foment opposition to God's kingdom. Satan is the ultimate source behind every false cult and world religion. Satan will do anything and everything in his power to oppose God, and those who follow God. However, Satan’s destiny is sealed – an eternity in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10).

From a Humanist perspective, certainly not. Satan, as a colorful mythological figure, is very interesting, but actually believing that there are demons hiding behind every bush trying to trick us into doing ill is juvenile. Humans, inspired by a myriad of motivations, both good and bad, sometimes do beneficial things and other times do hurtful things. There isn't a supernatural force behind either. We are the authors of most of our faults and need to take responsibility for our own actions--our wars, our crime, etc.,--otherwise we'll never make things better.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of God plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

wouldn't discribe Satan as a person since He was an angel who defied THE DEITY and thought it was better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven. the concept of Satan ( in my humble opinion ) is what we call the Evil Influences which are predominant in our lives causing mortals to be seperated from THE DEITY. Satan may not be considered a real being by many but Evil Influences are all around us.

In the Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis says that there are two grave errors that people make with regards to demons. One is to become morbidly obsessed with them (i.e. Satanists), the other is to not believe in them at all. The whole book "The Screwtape Letters" is written from the perspective of an older demon giving advice to a younger demon as to how to tempt and lead a man away from God and toward eternal damnation. It was a real eye-opener for me, I never realized how much I had never considered as "temptation" actually falls into that category.

So, in summary. Satan is real. He does influence our world. He affects us only we when allow Him to.

Thanks for reading. God Bless!

According to the bible, satan used to be God's Best-friend, and God gave him power, well it went to his head, and so God cast him out of heaven, and made him only "Ruler of the Air" which means he is "Roaming the earth , like a Roaring Lion, seeking whom he can devour" thats in the bible .. He will use music, people, drugs, alcohol, anythilng he can use, to destroy us all... because, satan, is "Jealous" of God, and anything that looks like God... So, all you satan worshippers, satan could care less about all your evil deeds, he's out to "destroy" you too!!! No, he's not a person, he's a very "Powerful Spirit" is all !!! And yes, he's affecting evil deeds as we speak, all over the world, because he can, "He's ruler of the air!!!"..... And as long as he, is... there will be "evil" all over the world !!!! Sad, but, true!!!

The Bible tells us there's a constant spiritual battle going on, and the prize..............your soul. Satan is described as a roaring lion, seeking to devour. I bet Satan loves some of the questions and answers here on Yahoo. But, the Bible also says, if you resist the Devil, he will flee.

Satan is very real . He is the father of lies. He uses every kind of deceit and evil to draw mankind to him and away from God. He hates Christians the most. Through prayer in jesus' name we are able to bind him.
