To the folks who answered the first quesiton..If Mary did not ask to be impregnated, which she did not - nor did she give permission to be impregnated then it is rape. If you are inserminated by artifical means and their is no sex involved, it is still considered rape. mary might have accepted it as a blessing, I will concede to this but it was LATER (AFTER THE FACT THAT SHE WAS KNOCKED UP) - but the fact she did not ask, or give permission the moment she was impregnated makes this rape. Or is it ok for someone (something) to inseminate you or your daughter without your permission as long as you accept it as a blessing? Mary being a good soul would not terminate the child, so of course after it was done and too late, had no choice but to say "it's a blessing - but face it - God raped Mary.

the Archangel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would bear the Messiah, she responded, "How can this be since I do not know man?"
So she had no idea she was knocked up - nice try people - but I have read your silly book - why do't you add the whole script not just hte piece you use to convince people your right.

"Behold the handmaiden of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your will." Everything said by the angel was in the future tense, "you WILL conceive" etc. Without Mary's fiat it wouldn't have happened; that's what all the classical commentators say. Mary's "yes" was necessary for the Incarnation to happen. Some go so far as to say that the Incarnation couldn't have happened until there was a woman who could say "yes." This is the root of Roman Catholic and Orthodox veneration for Mary.

Some things you just have to take on faith because the alternative is just to ugly. Haven't you ever asked to be God's hands and feet? Sometimes when we pray this - he answers in ways we did not expect. I believe this is what happened to Mary. Rape is an ugly - horrendous crime. I think it just was. It was a miracle conception - no ugliness about it. I don't believe God would commit such a horrendous act to bring about his son - I just really don't believe he would become human and start his life out by raping a 13 year old. That's just to ugly to imagine of the Jesus I believe in. I don' t believe he will ever come to earth again as a child so no more women will have to fear being "raped by God." Gosh now you have me thinking - thank you.

I'm guessing you haven't read the story of Mary at all. She was approached by a messenger of God. She didn't protest. Why would she? She was a Jewish girl waiting on a Messiah. God approaches her and says that she will mother this child. Why would she protest?
Why are you getting off on villifying saintly figures? That doesn't sound like something a good person would do, believer or not.

This is Blasphemy. An angel appeared to Mary and spoke with her. God never raped Mary, she willingly accepted this as a blessing. You should be ashamed of yourself, I am sure your Grandmother is.

You've got to be kidding, right. You are thinking in human terms, don't dumb God down to your opinions. They didn't have abortions back then, so what are you talking about terminating her pregnancy.
Your avatar shows how you feel, and I hear that Christians are being judgmental. This is judgmental as you can get.
Rape is a man-made law. God is above man-made laws. He made laws for us to follow. Are you putting God above all other gods, no so don't talk about laws, when your breaking them yourself.

Get your facts right.
When the angel appeared to Mary to tell her she would bear the child, Jesus, she said "behold the handmaiden of the Lord".
Yes, she was willing.
Joseph was OK with it after the angel explained it to him.
Believe what you want. But, stop insulting what we believe in.
