They should cut palm oil and hyrenated fats out all there products, that would save whole areas of rain forrest and lots of our taxes being wasted on future health care. But they would make a fractionaly slightly smaller profit, so they cant do that can they. Supermarkets could make a real difference to lessen there impact on the environment other than the changes and choices they make to give an image to the public.

The thing is how hard is it to really make a brown paper bag for putting the shopping in, aren't they still doing that in America? As for the 2 or 3 layers of packaging most items have there is plenty of room for easily reducing the waste packaging.

It's great, wish they'd done it years ago. Now they (and the other chains) need to switch to using biodegradable carrier bags, and ideally charge 5p for each, to cut down on the billions of bags that end up in landfill sites every year.

not good enough!
most supermarkets have brought in some kind of environment saving ideas including the COOP, ASDA and TESCOs
there is still a decent amount of things big supermarkets can do, but a start is better than nothing.
Fair play

What a novel idea ! Did we not have paper bags years ago-before these bright sparks thought plastic would be a good idea ? Put all their superfluous packaging in a plastic bag and take it back to them-for them to dispose of !

That is okay and Tesco are giving you 1 point for every bag you reuse but I think it would be more effective for all supermarkets to charge for the bags say 5p each and we would soon start reusing
