I'm not sure what to do anymore. Rory has been out of control for months now. But last night was the ultimate. He peed all over my coveted picture of Bea Arthur (in a yellow bikini-circa 1970). First he was pooping all over, and now this. I am afraid I am going to have to give him away. He knows how much I loved that picture. It must have fallen off the wall. He was always jealous of Bea! I know he was, because I often saw him sighing and groaning when I admired it. I know dogs don't have "human" emotions, but I swear Rory did this on purpose to show he is boss. Do you think a female Great Dane would appease him. I was thinking of buying one (Emerald). Please advise. Thanks all....

Well, who could blame him? Bea Arthur has always been one striking woman! And in a bikini no less, well there you have it, Rory just can't compete against that and it's the sad realization of that that has brought on his bout of jealousy.
I would suggest a heart to heart with him explaining that while you admire Bea, you realize you two could have never really been together and you are quite happy with Rory. I think with some sincere explanation, Rory will understand and not be so quick to pass judgement on poor Bea who really has nothing in this anyway. As for a female? Do you really think Rory can handle that possible rejection from her at this stage in his life should she choose not to like him back? I think not....

I do hope you see how difficult danes can be and I hope you spay and neuter and not breed anymore of them.

However; I don't think another dog is going to appease him. Danes want a couch of their own and food when they need it. They don't want playmates to bother them.

More concerning is the fascination with bea?? Maybe you need a playmate. Rory is trying to tell you to get a grip.

Michael, your best answer percentage is impressive, but your idea about how to raise and treat dogs is terrible. You left your great Dane at home all day locked up(In a previous question) and now you are thinking about getting a female for him. Wise up man, sell the dog and get a cat....and a litter box.

You are putting way to many human emotions on a dog.

well, if you do get a female, get the male sprayed if you don't want any unwanted critters roaming around in your house, do you?
