At b/f John's house for dinner, we were having a very interesting discussion on how prolific G K Chesterton was for a fat old geezer, when his mother said "Come on, Poppy, let's leave the men to their talk, and help me wash-up". As I stood there in her Marigolds, I felt like telling the old bat to f off and one day I will.

She sounds old school...let the men be men and the women will tidy up, make sure your b/f John is not old school as well.. You can cope with the odd time from his mother but not a lifetime from him?....bigger picture to look at here b/f John should have reminded his mother that you were in the middle of a converstion and she was being rude................

Well, perhaps his mother was thinking that the conversation wasn't particularly appealing to you (or perhaps it wasn't for her) and she was thinking the break away was a good opportunity for the two of you to talk away from the guys. I don't think she was thinking anything malicious or hurtful and telling her to f off would not do either of you any good - especially you if you are wanting to move forward with your relationship with your b/f.

I don't think your main concern should be about his mom-but how your b/f reacts to his mother's comments. Does he really go along with that 'old school' philosophy? That's how he was brought up. Will he expect that attitude from the woman in his life???

did you not consider the fact she may want to spend some time with you?
i have gone to my girlfriends house before now and she's been late in coming back from her cousins house or something, and only her dad has been in, and i enjoy speaking to him, i really do think yuo should consider this, if you want in on the family, then you gotta bond with all of them as such, i'm not being nasty, lets jus say his mum wants to get to knwo yuo better, talk to you persoanlly without your b/f 'john' being there to interupt and what not

hate to say it but a lot of elder women still think this way, I guess for the sake of it you might just have to put up with it - like you prob wont be going for dinner that often anyway right??
They cant really help it - its just the way they were brought up - times change, but old habits die hard.

Tell your b/f to buy his mum a dish washer and to read more.
Effing backward families... you will pixx off your b/f but he'll respect you unless he's an idiot.
Refuse to go back for dinner and tell them all why.

Women should know their place. You should listen to your Mother and leave the men-folk to our talking whilst you get on with the chores, and light our cigars for us.
