How do you know when your dog is pregnant?

We have an eleven month old german sheppard/husky. What are the signs that a dog is pregnant? and how long are dogs pregnant for?

This girl is too young to have a litter. You will notice that her teets develop. She will start to go off feed for a few days about 21 days into whelp. Then her appitite will pick up. In a dog that has never had a litter, you might not see obvious signs until she is about a week off from whelping. Her uterus will enlarge and you might be able to pick puppies up by palpation after 28 days. They will feel like round hard balls that slide through your fingers. At around 55 days you will be able to pick up pups again by palpation. You really can not x-ray until about 57 days on as the bones normally do not show up on x-ray before then. A dog is pregnant for aprrox. 63 days from when a male tied her. Around the time of whelping, her temperature will drop below 100 degrees and she will begin a nesting instinct. Get her spayed even now if you do not want any unwanted pups. I am assuming that you let this girl breed on her first heat cylce. She might not be emotionally able to take care of a litter at her age. You might need a c-section which can cost up to $1000. The pups need to be wormed several times along with the mother, and the pups need to be vaccinated as well. If you are going to have this litter, please do it right. Keep the pups with her for up to 8 weeks and worm and vaccinate them.

AGAIN........all dogs are pregnant for 58-63 days. IF you have questions, see the vet. There is a blood test that is pretty cheap. THe dog is too young and is a mutt. Maybe you could just have the vet SPAY the dog so there will not be mixed breed puppies born to a puppy.

You know. Dog's don't get pregnant. Bitches do and when they do then dogs are a nuisance.
