The Lincoln LS has been discontinued. But, I think the 3.9 L V8 that was optional (286 hp) would be great for the Ford 500. Yeah, I know fuel economy would be a little less, but there is a segment of the market that would definitely buy it.

yep its always made me wonder why ford sometimes does what it does, and the market wants strong V-8 powered vehicles and they will come out with a remake of the F-40 witch no one can afford ,and just makes me wonder sometimes there is a good share of people that would buy it ,like Chrysler's bumble bee and charger thy went back and ford should do the same other than the mustang, well Bill Ford (CEO) just stepped down so maybe we will see some old muscle come back ?, 500 with a rear wheel drive front V-8 would be a screamer

Ford is having a bad enough time right now trying to sell cars and trucks. They can't give away the trucks! The smaller V8 the 500 has is selling good it seems... IF they were to change plans it may drop the selling of the 500, which I'm sure is doing well. Plus the money they would have to sell out with the extra motor they don't want to or can't afford. When Americans look at cars to buy I think they look more at MPG now than HP. Thats just what I think. I could be wrong.

Ford already has a full size V8 Sedan so that would be redundant.
Restyling the Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis would be more benificial.
The 500 actually sells VERY well with it's currant powertrain & was voted "safest car on the road" by the NHSTA & the Insurance Institute .
So it already has a lot going for it.

There could be a "niche" market for V8, but I think Ford would rather market to the mass, at least where the 500 is concerned.
It's not supposed to be a "musle car" you know.
We already have that "niche" covered !

I think they would if they were trying to expand the market to a wider range of people. It seems that they just want to sell it to family oriented adults who just want to be able to go out and drive, not necessarily even doing the speed limit. I'm sure Ford has considered putting the 3.9L V8, or another V8 in the Five Hundred, but probably opted not to due to gas prices. I could see them producing a V8 that runs like a 4 cylinder on highways and putting it in the Five Hundred because that seems to be the new cool trend with Dodge, but as far as a V8 goes in it for now, I doubt it.

Its the same thing with Chevrolet though... If they had put a V8 in the S10 they probably could have sold a lot of them, but for who it was marketed to, it wasn't worth it.

Even if the 500 did have a V8, it doesn't really have the nice styling of the 300C. It kinda looks like a bad attempt to make the Taurus cool. Ford should start producing more gas saving vehicles to stay alive.

I think that they should put in the 3.9 Liter V8 that was optional in the Ford 500, if not then at least a brand new 3.5 Liter V6 which makes about 250hp.

I dont think the transmision would handle it. They are a piece of crap tranny which is unlikely to last past 100k anyway. The v8 with abetter tranny would make the 500 a decent car. I think people just got tired of how big a POS the Taurus was. You would think they would have decided to go with a bulletproof tranny, but history repeats its self.

Ford 500 to me isn't worth it. Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria is a HELL of a lot better.
