well, you can go with a gag gift for starters, such as " the complete idiots guide: to spanish" then give him another present, the real gift, maybe a replica spanish conquistador hat, or something to that effect. (unique and interesting)

Hmm. A pocket protector? I would include that as a joke but some old copy of Don Quixote in Spanish or something like that. I nice paella dish. Or perhaps just a nice gift certificate to a Tapas restaurant.
