Besides your attendants in black and white, incorporate the colors in your decorations and accessories.

Black and white weddings are traditionally one of the most formal weddings you can have. Make sure that everything is classy and elegant.
White tableclothes, black bows on the chair backs or black chair covers.
Alternate black and white tableclothes on the tables. Have the chairs decorated with the opposite color.
Try adding silver or cut glass in your centerpieces. It's a classic look. Maybe a bud vase with a single rose, or a candle ring with the oposite color as the tablecloth, red rose accents, and silver or glass accessories.
You can even have a black and white cake.

White should be the main color with black as a heavy accent. Too much black can look morbid to some of your guests who will think that it's a funeral and not a wedding.
The bottom line is that it is your wedding, so you should be happy. Do what you and your fiance agree on, and ignore the rest of the world.

Do it right and people will be talking about it for years! I'd suggest doing the bridesmaids in black dresses carrying red rose bouquets. Have them wear pearls as accessories. You in the white, of course, and have the groom & groomsmen all in black tuxes. Vary the groom's so his is different. For the ceremony, try sticking with the red accents. If you get too much black and white going on it's going to look like a peppy le peu theme... You've got some great sources as links that have already been provided. I would seriously consider getting a coordinator to pull this off smashing. The money they will save you by knowing what they are doing will make the day even more special!

I did the same thing. My bridesmaid dresses were tea length black (Jessica McClintok dresses spell?)with a white little sash around the middle. All of my flowers were red roses. Except the bridesmaids had a little bit of deep orange in the bouqets because it was fall. It was so beautiful and the pictures turned out really great. It will look very classy. I had my mom and his mom wear black as well (I think they had a little bit of color in the dresses) but that way they blended with the party. My invites were the coolest. Very large and black. When you opened them there was a little bit if red underneath and then white card stock on the top that that had the info on it. People were surprised at the black invites but it was unusual and some people thought it was a black tie affair because they turned out so fancy looking. Just keep it very simple. The martha stewart mag this month has some red ideas in it, you might want to look in there. Good luck! Don't listen to people who tell you not to use black.
For my center pieces I just used a few, I think three, red roses in a medium sized vase. With lots of candles at each table. I think the simplier that you keep it the better that it will look.
Ballons are for graduation parties, not weddings!

Black and white weddings are simple but elegant. The red roses as accents will look great also. I attended a wedding a few years ago and the colors were black, white, silver and red accent. I will post a few pictures to help with ideas. Good Luck.

We had a black and white wedding, and it was beautiful and elegant. Of course, I wore white, and my maid of honor wore a pretty black dress. The cake was all white with black ribbon and silver beads. We had those little bells instead of rice, and they were topped with black and silver ribbons. I'm not sure what else you'd want to know. My wedding planners and I had lots of ideas.

How about black, white and gray with bright red accents? My brother's was like that with charcoal gray attendants to distinguish them from the main players. It was in November and turned out quite elegant. If you had more than one attendant, they could be slightly differing shades of gray, from charcoal, all the way down to silvery gray.
Wish I could do mine over with this color scheme. I am sick of pastel weddings, or pastel anything for that matter.

black & white candles;balloons
single roses in black vases with a white ribbon around them
I saw a photo in a bridal magazine recently where the bridesmaids were in black & white outfits & they were all different - looked GREAT
your imagination is the only limitation
if you are having formal seating then seat covers in black & white - alternating- with maybe red ribbons on them
if more relaxed - go with zebra prints
