Mother's doctor recommendeds she install a stairlift which, on either staircase of the entrance hall in my view, is completely out of keeping. Why can't she make use of the dumb waiter which serves every floor and was perfectly acceptable to Hollywood legend Humphrey Bogart, as I recall?

No, I do not think your mother is unreasonable.
The doctor would not have recommended she install a stairlift if it was not necessary.
Please try to put your mother and her needs before the appearance of the house.
Your mother raised you, provided for you and took care of you.
Perhaps you might reconsider your way of thinking and give a little back to her.

Put your mother into a home.
Fancy even thinking about altering YOUR home in such a way.
Better still, thwack her over the head with a shovel and bury her in the garden, then everyone's happy.

If it's her house, suck it up.
Your mother's health far outweighs your home decor taste.
God forbid YOU need one of those when you're her age and your kid puts you in a nursing home so they don't have to deal with you.
