Adam was commanded to not eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
But, the reason they ate of the fruit was the true sin. They desired to become independant of God by obtaining the knowledge of good and evil. They believed the lies of the serpent who said they will become like God if they ate it.
It was the 3 desires that cover most sins which was the true sin
1. The lust of the eyes..."It looked tempting"
2. The lust of the flesh "It looked good to eat"
3. The pride of life "It would make one wise"
**He's here--
Your answer proves that it is YOU that doesn't have knowledge. The fruit was not carnal knowledge, but the knowledge of GOOD AND EVIL. In other words..right and wrong. It had nothing to do with education.
Your ignorant comment about Christians not studying is so absurd, it's amazing.
There is not one Christian that has a problem with science. The only thing most of us object to is the false science of macro evolution. Of which there is no proof. It is a mantra. It is also backed up by pseudo science and lies.
Since when does disbelief in evolution put you under an entire umbrella of "against-science"? That is a stupid reasoning process of which you and many others have decided to use to label people under.
The scientific community is not astute enough to realize that they've been duped by lies. Their own scientific discoveries contradict evolution theory and yet they still stretch the imagination to make their discoveries fit the theory.
The picture you paint of Christians being uneducated and dumb is a sad prejudice you've fallen for because you're incapable of using reason and logic.
So, if you want to remain ignorant, keep thinking the way you do. If you want to learn, try to understand the truth.

The sin was NOT an apple, but it WAS disobedience to God by eating some sort of fruit (possibly an apple) from a tree that God said not to eat from. This was the first sin and since Adam was the first man all of his desendants are born into to the penalty for sin, which is death. The only way to escape this curse is through faith in Christ.

The dude who wrote that nifty bit of scripture was astute enough - even back then- to know that the greatest threat to the god myth that he was promoting, was KNOWLEDGE. So eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge was forbidden. Even today, how many religious fundies read Scientific American or National Geographic? They believe that science is the workings of the devil and avoid being seduced by that deceiving serpent. So they are doomed to remain ignorant and go on believing in myths, legends and superstitious nonsense forever. Religious beliefs severely retard intellectual development and that is exactly what the worlds religious leaders want.

Posting answers that take more than 10,000 words should be a sin of some kind. Didn't Eve do the nasty with the snake? That happened in chronological order before she ate the apple.

The original sin was when eve start communicating with the serpent that gave the enemy the right to convince her to eat the apple. As soon as the thought hit her mind she had sinned.

The apple was not a sin, but a disobediance, I think the first sin was Cain killing Abel.

Well there is the notion of man ABUSING other creatures... you see this is THEORETICAL but what if it was peaceful in a garden view and all creatures did get along.... and well what if man did something GROSS like sucking on the tit of a goat or a cow or what? SLAUGHTERED FLESH...how gross..... very gross of man.
And what? Are you going to say that all the other animals who slaughter learned it from man? WEll perhaps, yes perhaps they did.... "I learned it from watching you dad."
What about a man "cheating on his wife".... well that could be a "sin".
------------------
Separate issue : Consider "syn" as in synthetic. Would you take a trip?

Yes. The original sin was to place something else before God, who is to be first in one's life. Adam and Eve were convinced that He was holding back something that was good for them, and put their own desires before God.

"Adam and Eve" is a symbolic representation of humanity. When humanity came to the point of realization they realized that they had choices. Choices led to "sin." It was necessary for evolution of the species to continue.

The original sin was the sin of PRIDE. The devil wanted to
be God. And the original fall was from heaven.
