Definitely wine. Choose something unusual from a local winemaker, maybe a seasonal wine. It will give the dinner a local flavor and also make a good conversation piece.

Try to find out what is for dinner and take appropriate Rhien wine, white for fish, red for red meat. Red is more rare and is appreciated very much. Also...rent and watch John CLeese on "Faulty Towers" the episode on the German guests and DO NOT do what he does!
