Group B strep is a bacteria that about 25% of women have, it is only an issue if you are giving birth in which they treat the woman with iv antibiotics during birth to prevent the baby from getting infection. If it is passed along to the baby because it goes untreated it can cause problems with the babies brain, lungs and spinal cord. For the most part there are no problems or symptoms in an adult, in some rare cases it can cause serious health problems such as various infections. In people with weakened immune systems it should be watched closely and treated accordingly. (I have GBS, went untreated and ended up with my daughter being sick at birth)
