If it were for faking sickness or intentionally missing the bus, I had to do chores until the school day was over.

No, I didn't have to stay in my room all day. But I did have to stay in the house and not do much. Now that I have 3 kids of my own they have the same rules. If they stay home from school they are not allowed to run around and play or go outside. They have to sit on the couch and relax for the day or wherever they are comfortable just relaxing and sleeping.

If i said i was sick then i had to stay in my room resting and i do the same with my kids....kids will fake if they know they will be able to have a fun day at home watching tv and playing video games, that way they will not say they are sick unless its true.If i had a drawn out ilness like bronchitis where i had to be home for a week my mom would allow me to watch tv on the couch or something because she knew i couldnt help being sick and was surely getting bored, plus she took that time to clean my sheets and stuff while i was out of bed....i had a great mom!

I had to stay in my room if I said I felt ill. Sometimes I was allowed to go into the living room and watch t.v. I don't think I was treated unfairly, if you are truly sick anyhow you wont want to be going anywhere but your bed most likely anyhow. The rule was if I didn't go to school, I didn't go anywhere else that day either. Fair enough!! I'll use the same rule for my kids too...

If I was sick, I stayed in bed or in the rec room, but for other reasons, I still had to do chores.
When I had my sons though, I would go take them out of school and go do something fun...they are older now, and doing quite fine.....just in case. But they love to shop!

If I wasn't feeling good my mom would have me lay on the couch or in my bed. I never thought twice about it if I felt crappy I didn't want to do anything anyway. I missed the bus once on accident and she didn't do anything to me b/c it was an accident "I had to go to the bathroom bad and the bus happened to come early" and it happened to be my 14th birthday. But I did miss it once on purpose and she made me scrub the hell out of the house. It sucked and I never did that again.

No, my mom didn't restrict where I could be - but where else would I be besides bed or the couch if I was truly sick? That might've been a tip off to faking, lol.

When I was little they would let me stay where ever I was comfortable. I was not allowed to play outside or be active.
