We have planned to fix a lightning arrestor at a height of 40 metres on chimney.I want to know how much area the arrestor will cover.Some say that the arrestor covers horizontally some circular area and from its circumference a slope of 30 degrees to the ground.I want the exact measurements and I appreciate your answers.Thank you and have a good day

Your rule of thumb is more or less ok, but it is just a rule of thumb! A lot of parameters to consider, such as any metallic point, surface, object around it and so on. If you have a TV mast within the protection radius, I pomise you that when lightning will strike, it will strike the antennae!
