The floatation of the plane is soothing enough to make a child drowsy and sleep off and on. Take plenty of finger foods with you along with liquids and table games like puzzles for this age group, books with pictures to look at and color. These are only a few examples. There are plenty of toys for this age for long road trips. the plane would be no different. In between naps, games and eating your child will do just fine without adding chemicals to his/her little body. Of course you will have to do a little entertaining too, through conversation and showing interest in the games and books. OH and let the little one have the window seat, there is plenty to gaze at out that window. The clouds can be fascinating to a child.

ok, i pass to ought to play devil's recommend right here and say that i'm notably uncomfortable with giving a newborn medicine that they do no longer want just to cause them to dopey for a airplane holiday. (on the very very least, wait and notice how the flight there is going -- you could constantly use medicine on the return flight) We flew with my daughter from Indiana to Arizona whilst she became into approximately 9 months (a lots shorter flight, i be attentive to) we took books, a cup of water that doesn't spill, some cheese and cheerios. She regarded out the window, regarded at different human beings, crawled over me lots, and nursed/slept lots. some thing else i might propose is carry alongside some thing that your newborn has by no skill seen in the previous -- according to possibility some new stickers and a few paper to place them on, another forms of quiet toys... (might sandpaper and yarn be exciting on your newborn -- you get the coarse sandpaper and have little products of yarn and you additionally could make pictures by making use of sticking the yarn to the sandpaper...) (do no longer forget approximately your carseat!)

Benedryl works, just check with your doctor first.

I rememnber one flight from LAX to Taipei. I groaned when I saw my seat assignment was next to a young mother and an infant.

We got to talking throughout the 15 hour flight and the baby just kept sleeping. I finally asked what the secret was, and she told me her husband was an EMT and the baby was given Benedryl. She did wake up a few times but was calm and a real delight.
